I was not expecting to wake up on the west coast to the Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part 1 (2023), but here we are! Let’s get after it!
Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the seventh installment of the Mission Impossible Franchise. This newest adventure has a direct line back to the original 1996 film with the return of Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny). For those that do not remember, Kittridge was a foil to Hunt in the original story, but his antagonistic nature toward Hunt was rooted in what was best for the Impossible Force he was once the head of. Kittridge thought that Hunt was the mole for the IMF, and that personal tension is still flowing with his appearance in the Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part 1 trailer.
The biggest thing to take away from this preview is that Kittridge appears to be an antagonist who wants to hire Hunt to his side. He wants to convince him that the glorious values he continues to fight for are dying. Kittridge says that the idea of fighting for the greater good is no longer a viable concept. He attacks it perfectly with “You are fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. It never did.”
Kittridge is the only one to speak in the entire trailer. That should say something. The rest of the Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part 1 trailer is just PURE ADRENALIN!!!
We have bonkers stunts. We have Tom Cruise running in a full sprint with a panning shot. We have crazy vistas and colorful environments. We also have more callbacks to Mission Impossible (1996) with what appears to be another fight atop a train!
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part 1 has been delayed numerous times due to COVID-19, but now it has an expected release date of July 14, 2023. This is going to be back-to-back summers of Cruise. Between this and Top Gun: Maverick (2022), the world is going to in a Cruise wormhole of entertainment.
In case you need a reminder about Kittridge, I am attaching the most important Kittridge clips from the 1996 original.
This is going to be weird. My girlfriend woke me up at like 3 AM while I was talking in my sleep. I guess I was. I don’t remember talking. What I do remember is what I was dreaming about, and it was very strange. I am at my old home. The home that my […]
