Before I get into the Reacher (2022) trailer, I have to personally say that Amazon Prime is knocking it out of the park with TV Shows. The Boys is a must watch, and I have really loved what I have seen of Hanna and Bosch, both of which I am entirely finishing soon. That doesn’t even include Jack Ryan or The Expanse which I have been begged to watch by my girlfriend’s brother. Oh, and there is the Hunters and Carnival Row which I have seen as well. OH! And how about Fleabag, which is the best comedy I have seen on TV, maybe ever? Amazon Prime and their original programming is killing it.

Now to Reacher, which is a show directly up my ally, and I will need a new cop show to replace Bosch once I am done with it.

This series is based off the Lee Child book series, of which there are MANY. Once I get through my Harry Hole phase (now that I am caught up on my Harry Dresden), Jack Reacher may be next. But I still have to do the audible book for The Stand, which may just take up my entire life. Any who, back to Reacher. Folks hear the name and probably thinking of the Tom Cruise movies; Jack Reacher (2012) and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016). I enjoyed the first one, gave it a “C+”, but the second one didn’t reach the average mark, getting a “D+”.

This is a new venture into the Jack Reacher character, and from what I have read, this series is more adhering to the character Child created.

First off, Thad Castle. Okay, probably not what the Amazon executives want people thinking when Alan Ritchson appears on screen. The man who made the legend of Thad Castle is playing the titular character Jack Reacher. Right off the jump, he is large, he is sassy, and he is not afraid to talk. That is the opposite of the the Cruise version of Jack Reacher, where he was never physically imposing.

Reacher is arrested and accused of murder, but the police of Margrave, Georgia soon find out he had nothing to do with the crime and instead they have opened up a shit storm of crooked people in very shady dwellings. It’ll be up to Reacher to shake the trees and see what evil falls out.

From the first minute of the preview, the makers of this show establish that Reacher plays by his own rules and likes to go wherever he damn pleases. Whether or not that is for the best…well the story will have to unfold for that. I am willing to bet his cavalier nature will put someone he cares about in danger and then suddenly he will have to make a seemingly impossible choice but his brashness and “my way or the highway” mentality is going to open a door to success no one saw coming. Any takers on that theory?

Just going to be honest, I am probably going to love this show. I love that Reacher season one is going to be eight episodes. I love how the formulaic basic cable success plan is being transported to streaming but in fewer higher budgeted episodes. I love that I am going to be able to get sassiness from every single direction.

Reacher premieres on Amazon Prime on February 4, 2022.
