On face, a lot happened this episode. We opened up with Matt being sent away, followed by a rose ceremony, followed by a normal episode with someone sending themselves home, and then another rose ceremony on top of everything. All in all, it was a jam-packed episode.
Austin going home makes me say, but it is the correct decision. He was multiple steps behind Sam M., Devin, and others, and the fact that Jenn didn’t do the two cocktail parties before the rose ceremonies meant that he was never going to get the one-on-one time needed.
I don’t know if Austin will appear on any other Bachelor Universe content. Despite the haircut, he does seem like a normal dude.
Both medical students went home this week with John and Dylan. It is rather fitting that the week we heard John talk the most is the week he goes bye-bye.
It was refreshing not to have a Sam M. and Devin fight this episode. It was only a side conversation that didn’t explode into something larger than it needed to be.
Jonathan’s one-on-one date was fine. It didn’t blow me away, but it does seem like Jenn is doing a lot to help him understand himself.
Grant’s one-on-one date was a chance for him to show off all his suaveness. The rain helped him seem like the knight in shining armor. However, the editing was a bit fishy while they were sitting on the beach.
Thomas is no longer on the show, which means we will be seeing a lot less yellow shirts and clothes.
The only man we know for sure gets a hometown is Devin. We learned that from the preview. I think we get Marcus as well when he says that he can’t get to the same level of “love”, but we can’t know for sure.
Does Jeremy get a one-on-one date next week, and does he get sent home?
The group date with the sheep was a a cute idea but poor execution on all fronts. Jenn saying she was comfortable outside while holding a shovel the completely wrong way was hilarious to me. My wife’s favorite part of the episode was the hopping sheep.
(MY) POWER RANKINGS
No. 7 Sam M.
(Last Week 11)
Credit to Sam M., we didn’t see him fighting or arguing about Devin this week. His supposed skill farming with animals seemed overblown, but Sam M. wasn’t the most annoying bloke in the universe today. If I could gripe, I didn’t like how he just spoke for the group regarding Matthew.
No. 6 Spencer
(Last Week 5)
Spencer better start getting worried. He has had a one-on-one date…however, he has been slipping dramatically. He hasn’t necessarily done anything wrong, but he hasn’t stood one which you need to do at this point in the show.
No. 5 Jeremy
(Last Week 10)
How is it that Jeremy is still alive? We saw him kiss Jenn for the first time. I would have lost so much money betting on him getting eliminated. The fact he is here with no one-on-one dates means something, but I don’t know what.
No. 4 Marcus
(Last Week 1)
While Marcus appears to be the steady hand, his emotional capabilities do seem to be lacking compared to the other men. He is the warm blanket for Jenn when she needs it, but he’s a blanket that stays indoors. This is the first episode in a while where Marcus lost ground.
No. 3 Devin
(Last Week 2)
Devin gets some backlash from the fellas for not shoveling shit and instead talk to Jenn. I mean, guys, what are we complaining about here? He wins the group date rose for taking the extra time and find time with the women he is interested in.
No. 2 Grant
(Last Week 4)
Grant gets the second one-on-one date of the episode and does a good job handling it. It’s the weird ass horse-riding date where they are never next to each other, so some screaming ensues. Then they get rained on at the beach (some shady editing there). Grant shined best talking about his father and family. I am not entirely sure about Grant with Jenn, but I do think he is getting a nice Bachelor edit.
No. 1 Jonathon
(Last Week 3)
Jonathon gets the one-on-one date, and he thankfully calls out Jenn for all her height-inducing dates. They then go to a winery (where we don’t see them drink much wine), and the classic hot tub scenery ensues. The one thing about Jonathon (and Marcus really), is that you can see how Jenn helps him understand something about himself.
We bid farewell to quite a few men this week. There are just seven men left, which means we are going to be getting a lot of mentions about hometowns in the near future. Matt didn’t stay very long. At the first of two rose ceremonies, Thomas and John got sent home. Then come the end of the episode, Dylan was escorted to the black van of despair. Jenn did clear out many of those who were taking up space, and now we are stuck with the frontrunners…who still have work to do to win me over. Sorry, not sorry, but most of these guys don’t have the gusto to have my fist-pumping when climactic moments happen.
