And here we are. Part Two! Hopefully you clocked on this right after you finished the first one just like how one would do a podcast in multiple parts.

So for quick summary, This is a draft of David Fincher things, but this time around you can double up. Like if a movie is picked in scene then it can still be picked in other categories. It makes for a lot more fluid draft.

For those that haven’t listened, the podcast is below.

This is my 17th reflection on a The Big Picture’s draft. Thus far I have Chris Ryan with seven wins and Sean Fennessey is currently in second place with six wins. Taking up the bronze position is Amanda Dobbins with two wins. Guest Joanna Robinson picked up the win in her celebratory appearance. The David Fincher Draft has the normal trio drafting.

Now let’s head into the David Fincher movie draft, where we are able to double up and have some cross over between the categories.

Again, I could not find a graphic with the draft selections like normal, so I am going to have to make this roughly into a table and it is not going to look so pretty.

Thriller
  • As I have mentioned in my David Fincher rankings, and various other posts, Zodiac is my favorite David Fincher movie. It is going up against the newcomer to the list in The Killer, which is very good but I can’t rightfully pick it with it being so new. And Fight Club I like a lot, but again not nearly as much as Zodiac.
  • So Sean is going to get the first point of the game. He draws first blood.
BLockbuster
  • Three very high quality selections here. Gone Girl, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Se7en are all rewatchable. They all captured audience’s eyes as well as critics. It is most interesting that Panic Room is not selected in this draft at all as it would fit into this category.
  • Out of loyalty, I am going to be selecting The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in this blockbuster category. It is the one I have seen the most, and it is the one I have to defend the most as one of my favorites. I think it is a worthy discussion to ask what is a better feat, Fincher making The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or Se7en a blockbuster? Both movies are depressing and install little hope in humanity. Yet everyone ran to see them.
  • Chris and Sean are knotted up at one each, with Amanda looking to draw blood.
Oscar Nominated
  • Amanda is not going to draw blood here. She has selected Mank as her Oscar selection, which I hold in far lower esteem than the Big Picture brethren. I am a fan of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, but it has nothing on the watchability of The Social Network. If you haven’t seen it in a while, give it another go. Yes, it still holds up.
  • A curious thought I just had would be creating Oscar nominations just from David Fincher movies. Go through the performances, writing, visual effects. The whole gambit. I admit that I would not be the most educated in awarding such honors, but regardless its a good idea.
  • Chris Ryan is getting his second point in this recap. He leads it 2-1-0 over Sean and Amanda.
Scenes/Sequences
  • Sorry Chris, I know you were trying to be different with picking the U-Boat scene from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, but that is not going to win here.
  • This one is tough. This one is really tough. The lake scene from Zodiac is a terrifying scene that takes place in brough daylight. The Andrew Garfield explosion and the meaning of that scene is elite. I refuse to picks draws, so so that means I am going to not only upset some people reading this but also myself.
  • I am going with You Better Lawyer Up, Asshole. Having just rewatched the scenes, Andrew Garfield is just so freaking good, but also the music cue when the shares diluted cross talk happens with the lawyer. It all hits, and its the moment where Mark is at his lowest point, though he will never show it.
  • Sean now has a commanding 3-1-0 lead over Chris and Amanda.
Advertisment/Music Video
  • I had never seen the Freedom ’90! George Michael music video. To be honest, I had never heard of the song either. But consider my eyes wide open. This music video is an outstanding bit of art. I don’t know anyone in the music video, but that doesn’t matter. This music video brings out…something. George Michael isn’t even in the video, he left it all to the pinups.
  • Also, the dark humor in Freedom ’90! is very prevalent. Cindy Crawford pointed out that MTV changed the way music was sold; all you need are pretty faces and and you don’t even need the singer. This music video has five super models and the artist is nowhere to be found.
  • So yes, I am going to side with Amanda Dobbins on this one. She gets a point for teaching me things. 3-1-1 is our tally.
WILD CARD
  • This one is pretty easy, and it takes all the excitement away. In terms of the Wild Card category, I am going to pick the movie rather than a director’s commentary or a movie that I have not seen. So I am going to say The Game, even though I wish it was a different film that Sean selected.
  • There it is. Sean takes it 4-1-1 over Chris and Amanda.

No drama here, Sean Fennessey picks up with win. He dominates this second draft and in my very non official score-keeping, he now has seven draft wins along with Chris Ryan. I have not gotten through them all, but Amanda is slowly falling behind. No diss on her. If anything it means she is sticking to her guns.
