Overview
  • In the drama category, I am going to have to go with Joanna Robinson’s Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World (2003). It wins over Mystic River (2003).
  • Comedy…I love that Sean Fennessey picked School Of Rock (2003). It is criminally underrated and has a killer final song and scene.
  • Oscar nominee is easy case for Malory Rubin and Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King (2003). Nothing even close to in that category for me.
  • In the action/horror category, this is where I think I will surprise some people. Just talking this out…Bad Boys II (2003) is nowhere near the top. I love The Italian Job (2003) and watch it with the family. Also watch the trailer for it…because it ruins the whole movie. Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) has the best SCENE (arguably) of the five movies. X2: X-Men United (2003) is a feat in superhero movies for its crazy story. But the best of the bunch…28 Days Later (2003). I loved this horror movie. It remains the best zombie movie I have ever seen.
  • For blockbuster category…I am going to go with Joanna Robinson AGAIN! She wins her third category and therefore is going to take home the prize in the end. Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003) is a great adventure movie. rewtach it and surprise yourself.
  • In the wild card category, I am going to go with Old Boy (2003). This movie is nuts. It has the crazy ending, and unbelievable twist.

In the end…my final scorecard. Joanna Robinson wins with three…then Fennessey with one, Ryan with one and Mallory Rubin with one.

Now in my out of order rehashing, I have Sean Fennessey up two draft wins to one over Joanna Robinson. Other draft staples Amanda and Chris don’t have a win from me yet.

Chris Ryan wins. The Love Actually pick did actually kill Joanna Robinson’s possible win. Didn’t know Amanda Dobbins would be that high, but good for her.

This was much harder because I have seen less 2003 movies than more recent years and five people selected movies from the pool!
  • Drama
    • Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World – WE WANT THAT SEQUEL
    • Holes – Remember when Holes was the craze. Madam Zeroni. The onions. The second hole is always worst than the first.
  • Comedy
    • Finding Nemo – I have a vivid memory of watching this movie in a hotel room when I was in high school on a family vacation and we were all dying laughing. Good memories for a great movie.
    • Malibu’s Most Wanted – Now I know this is not a good movie, but again memories. I remember watching this in the basement of my old buddy David’s house and laughing our butt off. Where did we learn it all? Grand theft auto.
  • Oscar Nominee
    • Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King – The best conclusion to a trilogy of all time?
    • The Last Samurai – Is it bad that I like this movie? I enjoyed it a lot. It is a white savior movie, but I still found it immensely enjoyable and the last charge into the guns still plays in my mind.
  • Action/Horror
    • 28 Days Later – One of my favorite horror movies of all time. Has some of the best apocalyptic shots ever. Also one of my all-time favorite zombie movies.
    • Underworld – Kate Beckinsale. Prime Kate Beckinsale. That is all.
  • Blockbuster
    • Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Black Pearl – I have already spoken about how this original is overshadowed by its not as strong followers. This original deserves it.
    • Bruce Almighty – I don’t love this movie like others, but it is very funny. It is also in honor of me using the typing fingers GIF quite a bit and playing the trumpet middle finger quite a bit.
  • Wild Card
    • X2: X-Men United was the first movie I ever wrote a review for. I was in high school. It was X2 and then Gran Torino
    • The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen – I like this movie god damnit! Don’t shame me! I have a good time watching it! I don’t care if it is gross, but THOEG has enough zaniness to make it work for my stupid brain.
