Release Date: May 25, 2022

Naturally, the latest trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi releases on May 4, 2022. Naturally.

This newest trailer is less focused on nostalgia and focused more on the story that is going to be told within this six episode mini-series.

The start of this trailer focuses on a Tokyo looking city with heavy imperial influence patrolling through the streets. There are inquisitors walking the streets and hunting down threatening foes…most notably Jedi. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is hanging out, hiding, and watching over a young Luke Skywalker.

In the picture above, we have Uncle Owen (Joel Edgerton) giving Obi-Wan a stern two hands on the hips and OH-SO-RUDELY reminding him how he trained Luke’s father…WHO ENDED UP BECOMING DARTH VADER. I mean Uncle Owen, what are we doing here? Don’t we think that he feels guilty enough already? Look at his face! He is ashamed!

Oh the shame!!

It would appear that the inquisitors have been hunting Kenobi for a while. I also like how the inquisitors said “Kenobi” which reminds me a lot of Darth Maul and his scratchy voice. It would appear that inquisitor Reva, Third Sister (Moses Ingram) is hinting that the Empire is looking in the wrong places. Also, it is time they bring in some back up. Reva is hiring bounty hunters to track down Obi-Wan, and safe to say things will transpire between them.

I have a hypothesis. I think that a bounty hunter is going to find Kenobi, but want him for himself rather than telling the Empire. This is going to lead to a three-way The Good, The Bad, The Ugly (1966) type of conflict. This will need to a narrow escape for Kenobi.

“You can not escape him,”

Well here we are. We have our Darth Vader fix. We have our reemergence of Hayden Christensen as the best Star Wars bad guy there ever will be.

We get the breathing that we know best. The aspirated, drawn out, deep breaths of badassery. I would DIE for another scene like at the end of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). Here it is for your viewing pleasure.

The last look that Kenobi looks into the camera has a ton of emotion behind it.

All of the pain!

Side note…do we have any idea who Kumail Nanjiani is playing? Or Benny Safdie?

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on Friday, May 27, 2022.
