So everyone who has seen this trailer can agree that Space Jam: A New Legacy is made strictly for the kids and anyone expecting anything else is going to not have a good time? I mean 20 seconds in there is a Kevin Hart short joke; this movie is going to be filled with some none evergreen jokes.
Don Cheadle, who plays the evil Al-G Rhythm, is having himself a week. In the most popular trailer of the week with Space Jam: A New Legacy but also No Sudden Moves for HBO Max. Two very different type of movies. Get that bag Cheadle.
The animation style looks good, but I am confused as to why in some scenes Lebron James is human but others animated? I am sure it’ll be explained in the movie.
I can not reiterate this enough. Now pausing around the 90 second mark of the trailer…Space Jam: A New Legacy is a kids movie. Lola Bunny (Zendaya) is delivering expository dialogue and over-the-top locker room pep talks fit to make sure the youth watching the movie are reminded of the plot.
What is the joke and point of the vacuum machine and the Coyote being duplicated a bunch? I do not understand. Is this a reference to the cartoons that I have not seen enough of?
It has to be said that the closing portion of this trailer with the Granny is bad.
I am personally coming to the consensus that I am not going to like Space Jam: A New Legacy but I also know that the movie is not being made for me. There have been very few references to the original Space Jam (1996) in the first couple trailers and pictures, so this movie is going to be a stand alone in terms of legacy. As one could say…a new legacy.
The one thing we have not gotten are previews of Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson or other professional athletes. That may be a make or break sort of thing.
Space Jam: A New Legacy premieres in theaters and HBO Max on July 16, 2021.
