• First thing about My Octopus Teacher is that it was beautifully shot. It is not just a unique environment, but the type of shots featuring the octopus and its environment were beautiful.
• I will admit that I have not seen a lot of the documentaries that qualified for the 2021 Academy Awards, but I am surprised that this took home the award. It is not a movie that is speaking to a bigger, broader problem. Seems a little to micro rather than macro for that prestige? I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
• Here is my simple pitch: if you like nature and science, you will love My Octopus Teacher. Otherwise, you will appreciate it.
