Holly Rowe inspires this idea. Yes, that Holly Rowe, the ever-present ESPN sideline reporter.

In an interview on The Audible with Stew & Bruce, Holly talks about how she learned to live a better life after she was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. She says that she focused on living day by day and finding the brightest moments in those days. Holly talks about how the positive outlook made her appreciate her life, job, and journey.

Holly mentions in the interview that she kept a Joy Journal where she would jot down good things that happened, whether they were feelings, experiences, emotions, or interactions.

I am going to try this. I was told in therapy that I need to work on having a more positive, attacking attitude. I think that this can help with that. It isn’t going to be detailed. It’s going to be bulleted and short. I am holding myself to that.

Thank you to Holly Rowe for the idea and The Audible, for the interview with her. Let’s see if it helps and if it sticks.

Monday, September 23rd

  • I started a new book at night: The Alienist by Caleb Carr. It is a very large book that will probably take me over a year to read, if I am being honest.
  • Had a tough day at home alone but became stubbornly confident that I was going into work on Tuesday.
  • I treated myself to two Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Tuesday, September 24th

  • I went to work. Did the commute. Did the day. Was it exhausting? Absolutely. Was it really hard? Very. Was it something I was proud I did? Yes.
  • I had to set up and oversee a stream that went live at 8 PM at night. I was nervous because it was new setup I had never done before but it went off without a hitch.
  • I was able to eat dinner without much trouble.
  • I committed to taking a new drug that has a chance to really change my life. It is an anti-depressant drug, which was a big step for me to admit I need help.

Wednesday, September 25th

  • Backyard Baseball ‘97 was put on Steam (to put on a Wishlist) but this is one of the first things I am excited for in a while.
  • I am glad that Emma is going to dinner at the local diner with her mom. It makes me happy she is still able to live life.
  • At work, I was able to add things to the gambling cave that should help streams. It is not a lot, but another camera and light can be cosmetic improvements.
  • As of my typing this, my back has been pretty good today.

Thursday, September 26th

  • A new Bob Does Sports video game out on YouTube and it brought me a lot of joy
  • I started watching the Vince McMahon documentary on Netflix…a tad bit underwhelmed through three episodes, but the third episode was excellent.
  • Realizing I can order dinner while working late at work and expense it brought my happiness.
  • I worked a late-night stream. I did it. But body recovery was bad.

Friday, September 27th

  • It was a bad day, but thank God my wife was with me through the worst of it.

Saturday, September 28th

  • I am here to say that Gatorade Zero Berry is an elite Gatorade flavor
  • Had a BEC for breakfast which really hit the spot.
  • Somehow, Boston College won a football game it didn’t deserve to win. A backup quarterback and a fourth-quarter comeback. We will take it.
  • Emma and I had a great date night and ate lots of food. I felt it for sure; I couldn’t finish everything, but that’s okay.

Sunday, September 29th

  • I finished the Mr. McMahon documentary. I would say I was slightly underwhelmed, but I still enjoyed it. It has now been two weeks since I have watched a movie.
  • My cousin stopped by for a few hours to watch football and that was a great visit. Easy hang with Michael.
