This is an exercise strictly for myself, so if you are reading this, I appreciate your patience and question your sanity.

These are the highlights from my Letterboxd.com All-Time Stats. Not just 2023, but all of time. All encompassing. I have my google sheet which has been my guiding light since I started obsessively tracking things, and Letterboxd.com has become my second home for chronicling the insane amount of movies I watch.

Am I insane? No.

Am I passionate? Yes.

I enjoy doing this. I enjoy watching movies, trying to interpret deeper meaning when necessary and trying to dissect my own brain as to what I like or dislike. In 2023 I tried to dive more into the past and educate myself on some classics I had not seen, and I think that mission was somewhat fruitful. It comes at a cost, but I am doing this for me. And you, if you are still reading this, are along for the ride with me. Thank you.

Now what is my life in film like according to Letterboxd?

I surpassed 3,000 movies this year!

Most Watched Directors
Didn’t watch a single new Clint Eastwood, John Carpenter, Ronald Emmerich, Michael Bay or Ron Howard movie this year. Sam Liu keeps creeping up with his animated movies.

Highest Rated Directors
Taylor Swift and William Wyler’s photos changed from last year. Expanding this list makes me happy to see Luca Guadagnino, Dan Trechtenberg and Bradley Cooper.

Most Watched Stars
Seeing Bruce Willis makes me sad. Matt Damon creeped up to my third slot. I guess I didn’t watch any new Morgan Freeman movies this year, but I did increase my Idris Elba and Jason Statham quota. Also John DiMaggio creeping up with animated voice work.

Highest Rated Stars
Angourie Rice coming from nowhere and claiming my number three spot. Going to be honest, there are a lot of faces here I don’t recognize.

Most Watched by Genres & themes
Not surprised in the slightest that action and thriller are the two genres. A bit surprised that fantasy and science fiction is so low.

Highest Rating By Genres & Themes
For the record, I rate movies about the killing of Nazis very high! But this all leans toward what I normally do gravitate towards; the heartbreaking and depressing ending.

Rating By Release Year
It has been a steady decline in ratings for last few years, over the last five years.

Movies By Release Year
The homework assignment of trying to learn things from the past affects the viewing from this year. But we will catch up ground.
