Ahh, yes. A teaser for the teaser. Classic marketing now a days.

In this ticking one-minute preview, we see more faces of the characters we will be following from the Second Age of Middle Earth. The skies are indeed acting strange as a fiery meteor looking object is burning its what through the different skylines of different landscapes. We see various elves, dwarves, humans, and all kinds of races and beasts looking up at its trail. The only line spoken in the entire little preview is “The Skies Are Strange”, muttered by a hobbit looking fella who isn’t too keen on seeing what the strangeness is about.

The fiery ball of death lands behind a bunch a small Ents and woodland creatures, and that can not be good at all for the folks who are trying to live peacefully and happily.

This is one of the things that I am most worried about regarding Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. Who are the bad guys? Who are Galadriel and Elrond going to be fighting against? I am not educated in The Silmarillion or any of the side stories that J.R.R. Tolkien has penned, so I am going into this blind. I am in the dark, but nothing has been illuminated for me yet as to whom these heroes are going to be fighting against.

Another area of concern I have is how large this cast is going to be. There are a FUCK TON of characters, so how are we going to emotional connect with all of them. It is going to require a lot of patience, and more than one season…and that is being generous. We bought into the long drawn out character studies in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, but to rely on audiences to do this again after the unfortunate terrible payoff at the end of Game Of Thrones is a scary opposition.

Amazon Studios is going to want to make a splash right out of the bat, and that worries me that the slow-pace required to to an effective story across multiple characters and cultures is going to be muddled. I want this show to last eight seasons, no more then ten episodes per season, and have a payoff at the end that is satisfying. I don’t need an over-blown jet-packed start.

Here is the analogy I am hunting for. You know how there are some roller coasters that send you off to the races with a propulsive push? I do not what that. I want the roller coasters that slowly tick you up to the top of the drop. I do want the ticking sound that is in this teaser trailer to be ringing in my ears as the cogs of the amusement park ride slowly notches its way to its apex.

Take your time Amazon. Please.

In case your missed it, here is Amazon’s official summary of what Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is going to be about:

“This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

The Mandalorian Chapter 18 (S3E2) Reaction | The Mines Of Mandalore

This is the shit I love. Chapter 18 of The Mandalorian is fantastic television and excellent Star Wars. Plenty of surprises, a bit of exposition, cool visuals and unexplained expansion of lore and stakes; all of these things make The Mines Of Mandalore a great episode of television. From the start of the episode we…
