Honest question here. Who cares?
The final trailer for this debacle of this Harry Potter rejuvenation has less fan-fare around it than Morbius (2022) did. We all knew (and now know) that Morbius is not a good movie, but still people were anxious to see it and talk about it. Are we sure that people are excited to see Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore?
The trailer starts with Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) talking about the Kingdom of Bhutan. A place where magic was forged and the past can whisper back to you…if you listen close enough. Hmmm, some foreshadowing about how Dumbledore’s past as a youngling is somehow going to connect with the story. HMMMM???
I guess they are still trying to have this latest installment connect with the the major motif of animals and beasts from Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016) with a big puffer reptile bird thing saving Newt (Eddie Redmayne).
So this is going to be a bit of a rag-tag team up movie with the sole purpose of taking down this Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen). Everyone has been assigned a role…and they are all at the behest of Dumbledore. They need to trust him…no matter how off it could feel.
Jacob Kowalski (Dan Folger) is the best character in the movie, and it appears that he would get a wand from Newt. This, if you are a fan of the franchise, is going to be a big moment. For someone who hated Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald (2018) with a fiery passion, I am all out on actually caring about the characters.
We get a scene of Dumbledore and Grindelwald sitting down in a cafe trying to have a hallelujah come to peace moment. This reminded he of Heat (1995) with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro sitting down, but there is no way that it will live up to the same magic.
The trailer is not afraid to show Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone…who is a character I know nothing about? I don’t remember anything about him? The restraining order against Ezra was dropped by the couple in Hawaii he harassed, but still he is not living in the best light right now.
The swiveling thing at the end of this trailer is stupid. That is the part about it that I do not like.
In all honesty, the magic wars and fighting in the streets looks cool. Overall, I am so unenthused for this movie.
There may be another fourth Dumbledore movie following this…but that all depends on how much money Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore makes.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will be released into theaters tomorrow, Friday, April 15, 2022.
NBR stands for the National Board of Review and it was established in 1909. Every year they pick roughly 10 movies that they deem to be the best of the year, and they name one movie of the year. It is a bucket list accomplishment for me to eventually conclude every year’s list in full. […]
