First thing first. Ana De Armas is incredibly attractive and when she struts in with that black dress at the start of this trailer, you are all but demanded to watch the rest of the preview. Now that I can get initial thought out of my head, we can get to ghosted (2023).

Does the song I’m Gonna Be remind anyone else of How I Met Your Mother? I can’t help it.

Also credit to whomever thought to incorporate the tagline “Action speaks louder than words.” Nice touch for an action movie like this.

There are questions to be answered about ghosted. Is it going to be another The Gray Man (2022) which really stepped on a land mine and blew itself. That big-budgeted movie had Chris Evans planning the maniac bad guy. In ghosted he plays the part of the dumb boyfriend who stepped into the wrong place at the wrong time. A further question I have about Evans and his character Cole is how he seems to be able to kick ass at some point? What training does he get? I am other thinking it, but it did raise my alarm bells.

Alright, quick plot summary. Cole falls for Sadie (Ana de Armas), but she ghosts him. He goes to London for a romantic gesture, but instead finds himself in an espionage plot that goes belly up. Explosions, sexual tension and hijinks ensues.

ghosted is being directed by Dexter Fletcher, and this is going to be his first big action movie. His first movie was Wild Bill (2011) which had solid recognition and stars Charlie Creed-Miles, who is most known for playing Billy Kimber in Peaky Blinders. Fletcher then goes a bit of the drama route with Sunshine on Leith (2013) before following it up with his first of two movies with Taron Egerton, Eddie The Eagle (2015). Four years later, Rocketman (2019) swept the scene and proved that it was much, much better than Bohemian Rhapsody (2018).

Now Fletcher has the star power of Armas and Evans, added on the recognizable faces of Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto from The Mandalorian), Adrien Brody, Tim Blake Nelson, and Tate Donovan. There is plenty of talent in ghosted, but it all comes down to one person.

Ana de Armas.

Armas is on the fast track when it comes to action-movie stardom. She is flying down the tracks, praying that she can just keep her feed from coming out from underneath here. In 2021 she thrived playing the bit part of Paloma in No Time To Die (2021). She really was the perfect Bond girl. She was more than capable pulling off the action stunts.

Armas got to play a capable badass again in The Gray Man, but the script did not allow for anything more than filler. The one thing that is undeniable is that Ana de Armas can hold her own in an action movie with those around her. She will have the chance to carry her own action movie with Ballerina comes out. This movie is going to take place in the within the John Wick universe, and even the logline makes you know it is going to be simplistic: “A young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.” It also makes me very sad to see Lance Reddick among the cast.

ghosted drops on AppleTV+ three weeks from today on April 21st.
