Holy lord, this trailer for Barbie is perfect. Fucking perfect. We knew that Greta Gerwig was going to deliver a unique take on the plastic character, but this trailer is better than anything we could have wished for.
Using the 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) theme as the background for a twisted version of societal evolution is a pure stroke of genius. The shot for shot remake of Stanley Kubrick’s opening montage is such a wonderful dichotomy. The smashing of the porcelain dolls emulating the bones, and Margot Robbie’s legs being the Monolith…I mean both are world shattering and world starring at.

The evolution of man on the same playing field as the evolution of female ideals and social norms. There are a short list of people I would trust to handle an idea like this, and the duo Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig are a pair two of those elite few.
I have little doubbt that the footage of Barbie standing in the desert like a Greek God is actually not actually in the movie. What we do see are snippets from the motion picture. Little glimpses of outstanding, vibrant and outlandish colors. The costume design and production design for Barbie already appear to be top notch.

This movie is going to get Oscar consideration just because of who is attached. There are 10 Oscar nominations between Gerwig, Baumbach, Robbie and Ryan Gosling. There are almost too many beautiful people in this movie for it too fail, or at least not make a fuck ton of money.
Barbie takes theaters on July 21, 2023…the same day as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023). It is going to be a box office and critics battle royale. I can not wait.
Which one is going to have a bigger box office debut? Barbie, or Oppenheimer?

There is a lot happening in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. One could argue that there is too much going on.
Much maligned as the worst of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible II doesn’t do itself any favors upon rewatch.
