“In the next installment, the survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter in New York City.”

Director: Matt Beeinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett
Writers: Guy Busick, James Vanderbilt, Kevin Williamson
Staring: Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Coureney Cox, Jasmon Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Hayden Panettiere
Release Date: March 10, 2023

We have reached the point in the Ghostface franchise were we put him in New York City. It happened to Jason Voorhees in Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989), and now we have another slasher who is going to terrorize the streets of America’s asphalt jungle.

Notably missing from the this trailer, and the cast as a whole, is Neve Campbell. Sidney is the hero of the franchise, but she will not be making the trip to New York. According to various reports, Campbell did not sign on for this sequel because of a contract dispute. As reported by MSN, Campbell said “I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years, and as a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.”

What will the movie look like without Sidney saving the day? Expect more screen time for veteran survivor Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and new scream queens Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) and Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera). Four survivors from the 2022 surprise critical and box office hit Scream (2022) have decided to move across the country to escape the mental trauma of being on Ghostface’s home turf. Unfortunately for them, evil doesn’t know boundaries. Ghostface is back and his disguise is not just the mask and robe, but also the overcrowded and overstimulated New York crowd.

The tagline that is used in the trailer: “In A City Of Millions No One Hears Your Scream” references a classic criminal justice theory that the more witnesses to a crime, the less likely anyone is to speak up. Everyone assumes someone else will tell the tale of what transpired, but such a mind set means many crimes committed go without repercussions. Will the masses be quiet when Ghostface starts taking out his respective targets?

Speaking of the tagline again. I think that Scream VI is paying homage to Alien (1979) and it’s iconic tag line, “In Space No One Can Here You Scream”. Maybe that is just me Alien bias, but never a bad thing to remind me of Ridley Scott’s classic.

I have a theory, or rather a guess. I think that there will be a scene in Scream VI that has one of the characters killed in an alley with some windows looking down on it. The dimly lit kill zone will have some eyeballs on it, and the person being mangled will be trying to get help or attention. The windows will then be shut. The blinds pulled, or the lights turned out. The idea that the city neighbors turning a blind eye to something not directly affecting them.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are returning to direct after resurrecting the franchise with Scream earlier this year. Same with writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. So the core four are back, just like the four survivors. I personally have a lot of stock in Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett because they made Ready Or Not (2019) which has been one my favorite recommendation for people. Making Scream VI even better is the fact that Samara Weaving has joined the cast. Yes please and thank you.

Scream VI releases into theaters on March 10, 2023.

A Taylor Swift Concert, Or 1 Million Dollars? Easy Answer.

Call me crazy. Call me an idiot. Call me moronic. You can call me whatever you want, but most importantly, call me a Swiftie. Last week John Rich put out this hypothetical tweet out there talking about the price of reselling Taylor Swift tickets. I immediately replied saying that the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert…

Ranking The “Scream” Movies

No. 6Scream 3 (2000) Horror movie franchises tend to jump the shark at some point. Scream 3 (2000) pokes fun at this nature…but also falls into the same trap itself. The setting for Scream 3 is right up my alley. It is set on the set of a horror movie. It is on the set…
