The soundtrack to this trailer. The sound track to every Creed trailer. Chef’s kiss.
Creed 3 is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, and the movies star is taking Adonis Creed on a different path from what we have seen. For one, there is no Rocky. Sylvester Stallone is not in this movie. Rumors are that its because they wanted to kill off Rocky, but Sly didn’t agree. So now there is no Italian Stallion. It’s a shame. Stallone was legit fantastic in Creed (2015) and damn good in Creed II (2018). Who is going to fill the void.
Enter Jonathan Majors. The behemoth of a man is bringing the heat in Creed III.
Adonis is living the life of luxury. He has been winning both athletically and personally. His smooth sailing path suddenly gets bumpy when childhood friend and boxing protege Damian (Jonathan Majors) reenters the champion’s life. As the newcomer begins to get a taste for his power and how good he is, the relationship between the two estranged former buddies gets taught with tension. And do you settle a feud that spans decades?
Between the ropes, of course.
Creed III is a combination of Rocky III (1982) and the oft-rumored-to-exist-but-is-really-just-imaginary-movie-but-for-this-sake-we-will-call-real Rocky V (1990). The champion who is on top of the world is maybe getting to comfortable in his own skin and he needs to find a reason to fight when all of a sudden he has the chance to mentor someone who can be great but then turns his back and therefore eliminates their trust.
Adonis is helping Damian out after his 18 year lock up. He is vouching for him and giving him an opportunity that he never had. Damian seems to be appreciative at first, but soon jealously begins clouding his judgement. He gets a taste of what he could have had, and not he is trying to chew out himself a corner or Adonis’s lifestyle.
It is curious that in the trailer we see Adonis looking at a series of championships he has won, and later in the trailer Damian is holding some. Did he take belts away from Adonis, or did he win those on his own in a different weight class? If so, is Adonis going to have to bulk up more to fight the bigger foe? How will that affect him if that is the case?
You come to movies like Creed III because it is a comfort. You know the overall beats of the story, but you are constantly waiting for the surprise shoe to drop. Whether that be an incredible sound track, and surprisingly impressive performance, a twist at the end (like the hero losing) or for the stunning visuals. There needs to be something that makes a movie like this pop out from just a generic popcorn sports movie.
If I were a betting man, I think it is Majors. He has the angry, antsy energy behind this whole trailer that is reminiscent of a slightly calmer Clubber Lang. Damian may not have the style (literally) or the extroverted camera-happy charisma, but he has darker “I will destroy you” look that lets you know his soul has been beat up and now he wants to beat back.
Can’t end without saying how much I love the contrasting black and white in the presumed final fight between Adonis and Damian. Simplicity working at its finest. Stripping away all the frills.
Creed 3 looks to knockout the audience when it is released in theaters on March 3, 2023.

This is the shit I love. Chapter 18 of The Mandalorian is fantastic television and excellent Star Wars. Plenty of surprises, a bit of exposition, cool visuals and unexplained expansion of lore and stakes; all of these things make The Mines Of Mandalore a great episode of television. From the start of the episode we…
