“Famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece for his latest case.”
Director: Rian Johnson Writer: Rian Johnson Staring: Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Ethan Hawke, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monae, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista Release Date: December 23, 2022 IMDB
Right off the bat, love the sound. The ticking theme, the strumming of the strings, the dramatic crescendo. I don’t even need to hear the word of Mr. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) and I am already in.
Smart of the trailer to show Kate Hudson first. She is the one people are most curious about in this movie.
Kate Hudson sporting the curly blond
The trailer continues toting that Rian Johnson is at the helm of the project, which is one hundred percent warranted. The text on the screen follows along with a monologue voiceover by Blanc. He is toting how this is a puzzle for the guests on this exotic boat, but to quote the movie’s own promotional material…nothing is ever as it seems.
“This is not a game” – This is what Blanc says. Lionel Toussaint (Leslie Odom Jr.) asks the detective to explain it…and so he shall.
The cast flashes across the screen and it is just incredible. Danial Craig gets the poster placement, but there is plenty of talent behind him. Edward Norton looks like a smug businessmen as Miles Bron. Hudson is sporting a colorful red bathing suit and crazy hair as (Birdie Jay). Dave Bautista looks jacked as all hell sporting a pistol speedo as Duke Cody. Jessica Henwick stars as Peg and her star continues to rise. The best name in the bunch is Whiskey, played by Madelyn Cline. Kathryn Hahn will have facial reactions galore as Claire Debella. Janelle Manae looks elegant as all hell as Cassandra Brand, and Leslie Odom Jr. emanates royalty as Lionel Toussaint.
Did I lose you in that? If so, I am sorry. Let me grab your attention again.
The only character not with a name on IMDB is Ethan Hawke’s. The most thought provoking and spiritual performer on the cast given the most mysterious role? Yes please, and thank you.
The only person I know who did not likeKnives Out (2019) was Rico Bosco. Everyone else is excited to get back into the world of whimsical murder mystery. Try and predict the play, because I bet that you can not. There are lots of layers to this story. You know…like an onion.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out is mandatory TV viewing come the holidays. Cap off the 2022 year watching what will for sure be one of the more entertaining movies of the ending calendar year. Oh, and it is on Netflix, so anyone can watch and everyone should watch it.
Loved this draft idea from The Big Picture crew. I am not going to be able to do my normal redrafting because there is just enough movies to pick from, but I will have fun going through all of the different categories and determining what my dream lineup would be from the movies i have…
