Let’s fucking gooo!!!! The Boys is maybe the only running show that gets my blood going is The Boys on Amazon Prime. The show is bonkers, bombastic, bloody and belligerent. The trailer for season three dropped over the weekend, and with it dropped plenty of tasty talking points.
First off….Butcher (Karl Urban) has glowing supe eyes? During this trailer we see him look like a toddler Cyclops just beaming death rays out into the ether. When I first watched the trailer I turned to my girlfriend confused and just had to make sure we didn’t know that Butcher had these superhero powers. It is a safe hypothesis that Butcher takes the compound V that has been streaming through the veins of many an addicted superheroes to see what it is all about. Well. Butcher looks like he gets more than he bargained for and he gets the same laser beam eyes that Homelander (Antony Starr) and their son have. I say “their” because Butcher is the husband to the now dead Becca (Shantel VanSanten) but Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) was born due to Homelander raping Becca. It is a very messy situation.
Also it has to be said that this song in the trailer is really awesome. Plain and simple. I know Imagine Dragons gets shit on a lot, but “Bones” is a great song and the trailer is chopped up to it very well. Sure, be a hater if you want, but I will be listening to this song again.
Nice touch early on in the trailer with the lyrics to the song saying “face in the mirror is all I need” and you have Homelander staring off into the abyss. The man is the most egotistical of the bunch in the show. He would solve the world of its problems all by his lonesome if he had the choice. Thematically, it fits.
Black Noir is back and he is accompanied by “the reaper takes my life” which makes me thing he is going to be coming for blood, which is fair seeing what happened to him.
There is a lot of pent of rage among the titular group and it would appear The Seven. Hands clenching in frustration and in anger. Everyone is trying to get a grip on their new situations, and I feel it is safe to say that it won’t happen easily for all.
THEY ARE MAKING FUN OF THE KARDASHIAN PEPSI COMMERCIAL! That is hilarious. Also looks to be a new get-up for A-Train (Jessie T. Usher).
I am slightly confused why there is a K-Pop dance number. Have to think that it is a Vought public relations campaign or some sort of international attempt to garner applause from their blind adoring fans? I wouldn’t mind seeing a terrible attack happen during that dance act. Not a fan of big dance numbers like that…like I am not a big face of Peacemakeri’s introduction. I know I am in the minority of that.
There are flashes of some raunchy sex followed by the tender kiss of Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Seems to be that despite Hughie’s new job working for the superhero brain-exploding senator (that he doesn’t know about) blends well with Starlight becoming a new face of The Seven with Homelander.
We also get a new Red Scarlett looking super hero who may be entering The Seven. This comes as part of a sequence of girl power with Kimiko Miyashiro (Karen Fukuhara) kicking as in the clip prior. If I recall correctly, Kimi and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) have arguably the cutest relationship in the who show, even if it is mainly him trying to stop her from going rampage on people whenever she feels like it.
Oh we have our first look at Jensen Eckles as Soldier Boy! I wonder if the producers are going to get the rights to a Soldier Boy song to play at some point when the character Soldier Boy is kicking ass or something.
Based off some clips later in the trailer, I think that we first see Soldier Boy in some sort of Middle Eastern war where he is “kidnapped” but he has a smirk on his face so he is going to escaping and then kicking ass. Still not sure if he is a good guy or a bad guy, but that is my hypothesis.
There are a serious of short clips of screaming, fighting explosions and super hero entrances…that is until we get to the cow. Everyone that Homelander has milked before (literally) is dead, and we see him milking a cow and having a classic vinegar face. This was a viral moment on social media because good god Homelander, calm down a little with the horniness.
So the final two parts of this trailer are very intriguing to say the least. We have Butcher and Homelander sitting in a room doing the whole Paul Rudd “look at us” GIF. Does Homelander know that Butcher has superhero powers now? Does he actually have them when they sit down? Is it a bluff? I am confused and I would like answers. Also, after the credits seemingly roll, we get the rebirth of Solder Boy? Maybe Ackles’ character did die and was brought back to life with Compound V? Is he going to be like a Captain America but combined with The Punisher? Just combine that ideal hero with the counter-hero personnna?
I should let it be know to everyone who has bother to read this that I do not have any knowledge of the comic book series this show is based off of. I love it that way. Let’s get bloody again.
