OH THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE SPICYYYY!!!!! We have ourselves an attempt at a new Basic Instinct (1992).
Let’s just be straight and upfront here; this is a movie that everyone will line up to see because it has two insanely attractive people in an intimate relationship that is also infused with possible murder and deception. De Armas is going to be leaving men speechless and gasping, just as the character Affleck is portraying in Deep Water succumbs too in this teaser. Good lord almighty, is it getting steamy in here?
So what do we know about Deep Water itself? The movie is based off of a Patricia Highsmith book that shines a blue light on what a loveless marriage can become. Vic Van Allen (Ben Affleck) and Melinda Van Allen (Ana de Armas) are married, but it is one of convenience. Melinda is allowed to have multiple partners and it is all hunky dorey with Vic. Their unique sense of bliss is shattered when lovers of Melinda begin going missing, and foul play is expected.
Deep Water is a return to disgruntled marriage for Affleck. You remember him in Gone Girl (2014), when Rosemund Pike made him pay for cheating on her? Maybe it is going to be flipped this time with Affleck’s character inflicting the pain and attempting to be all innocent? Regardless it looks like in both movies his character is going to accused of murder.
Deep Water is being directed by Adrian Lyne, who has not directed a movie since 2002. I have seen a few of his works, Flashdance (1983) and Jacob’s Ladder (1990), but I have not seen Fatal Attraction (1987) which would seem to be his closest comparison to what this movie will be.
Now is it going to be awkward for de Armas and Affleck to promote this movie knowing that this movie is going to be a lot about a physical relationship, and they dated during and after filming, but now they are no longer together? I am not a fan of such awkwardness, but I will enjoy the rest of the Internet analyzing any interviews they have to do together. I wonder how Jennifer Lopez is feeling now that she is attached with Affleck again. Will she attend the red carpet, and if she does, will she stay for the movie? I say no way in hell.
Deep Water is going to make people blush when it is released on Hulu on March 18, 2022.
