Now that the NFL season is over, let’s revisit what I put out back on September 7, 2021. Let’s revisit my predictions and see how wrong I really was. This is going to be a humbling experience.

AFC

East

NFL Season Results

  1. Buffalo Bills (11-6)
  2. New England Patriots (10-7)
  3. Miami Dolphins (9-8)
  4. New York Jets (4-13)

My Predictions

  1. Buffalo Bills (13-4)
  2. New England Patriots (11-6)
  3. Miami Dolphins (9-8)
  4. New York Jets (4-13)

I did alright here! Got the Dolphins and Jets right on the nose and got the correct order of the standings.

NORTH

NFL Season Results

  1. Cincinnati Bengals (10-7)
  2. Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7-1)
  3. Cleveland Browns (8-9)
  4. Baltimore Ravens (8-9)

My Predictions

  1. Cleveland Browns (12-5)
  2. Baltimore Ravens (11-6)
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7)
  4. Cincinnati Bengals (4-13)

Wellll when I got right about the AFC East I got all wrong in the AFC North. The Bengals made the Super Bowl and I had them finishing last. Dead last. Also the Browns supremely disappointed me.

SOUTH

NFL Season Results

  1. Tennessee Titans (12-5)
  2. Indianapolis Colts (9-8)
  3. Houston Texans (4-13)
  4. Jacksonville (3-14)

My Predictions

  1. Tennessee Titans (12-5)
  2. Indianapolis Colts (7-10)
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-11)
  4. Houston Texans (0-17)

I went massive on my Texans bet and now I am shaking my head. Never would have guessed the Jaguars would have been more of a mess than their divisional counterpart. With that being said, I nailed the Titans record.

WEST

NFL Season Results

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (12-5)
  2. Las Vegas Raiders (10-7)
  3. Los Angeles Chargers (9-8)
  4. Denver Broncos (7-10)

My Predictions

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (14-3)
  2. Los Angeles Chargers (11-6)
  3. Denver Broncos (9-8)
  4. Las Vegas Raiders (7-10)

I felt so good in the first five weeks with Denver being frisky…but then reality dropped by. Picking the Chiefs was easy. Just struggled this this division a bit. I am not good at the predicting thing.

NFC

EAST

NFL Season Results

  1. Dallas Cowboys (12-5)
  2. Philadelphia Eagles (9-8)
  3. Washington Football Team (7-10)
  4. New York Giants (4-13)

My Predictions

  1. Washington Football Team (10-7)
  2. Dallas Cowboys (9-8)
  3. New York Giants (6-11)
  4. Philadelphia Eagles (3-14)

Injuries really screwed me here with the New York Giants. They are not a good team by any means, but they would have at least been competitive over the last couple of…months. Also Ryan Fitzpatrick going down…and Chase Young…just brutal.

NORTH

NFL Season Results

  1. Green Bay Packers (13-4)
  2. Minnesota Vikings (8-9)
  3. Chicago Bears (6-11)
  4. Detroit Lions (3-13-1)

My Predictions

  1. Green Bay Packers (14-3)
  2. Chicago Bears (7-10)
  3. Detroit Lions (3-14)
  4. Minnesota Vikings (3-14)

I bet against Kirk Cousins and I lost. The quintessential mediocre team. They had a +/- this year of -1. That is nearly as .500 as you can go.

SOUTH

NFL Season Results

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (13-4)
New Orleans Saints (9-8)
Atlanta Falcons (7-10)
Carolina Panthers (5-12)

My Predictions

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (13-4)
  2. New Orleans Saints (9-8)
  3. Atlanta Falcons (8-9)
  4. Carolina Panthers (4-13)

Easily my best divisional prognostication of the bunch. Nailed the order, and was only off by one win on the Falcons and the Panthers. Good job me.

WEST

NFL Season Results

  1. Los Angeles Rams (12-5)
  2. Arizona Cardinals (11-6)
  3. San Francisco 49ers (10-7)
  4. Seattle Seahawks (7-10)

My Predictions

  1. Los Angeles Rams (12-5)
  2. San Francisco 49ers (11-6)
  3. Seattle Seahawks (11-6)
  4. Arizona Cardinals (9-8)

Russell Wilson going down and the Seahawks just underperforming as a whole got me in the read in the NFC West. The 9-8 record I predicted for the Cardinals really seems to be what they ended up playing at. I got the eventual Super Bowl champs regular season record right on the button.

Super Bowl Champion

  • Actual Winner: Los Angeles (Rams) over Cincinnati
  • My Prediction: Kansas City over Green Bay

Nobody had the Bengals in the Super Bowl, so I can’t be that upset about it. My prediction for the Super Bowl were the top seeds in their respective conferences so I would like to argue for partial credit and that the teams didn’t do the work.

Most Valuable Player

  • Actual Winner: Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers
  • My Prediction: Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs

Mahomes was not really in the conversation at the end due to the way the Chiefs changed their offensive scheme. Rodgers was slinging it everywhere and ran rup-shot over his division.

Offensive Player of the Year

  • Actual Winner: Cooper Kupp of the St. Louis Rams
  • My Prediction: Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers

I was right with it being a wide receiver! And a damn good one at that! I had Kupp on my championship winning fantasy team (one of two I might add), so I saw his stats pile up every week. He was a monster and deserved.

Defensive Player of the Year

  • Actual Winner: T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers
  • My Prediction: Chase Young of the Washington Football Team

I swear that when I wrote this blog in early September and was doing the predictions I was flipping between Young and Watt. I went with Young because his conference was easier. Obviously I chose the wrong man.

Comeback Player

  • Actual Winner: Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals
  • My Prediction: Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers

Burrow let a downtrodden team to the Super Bowl and change the entire outlook of his franchise while still being on his back more than any other quarterback. This man deserves endless ice baths and cryo chambers with his trophy.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

  • Actual Winner: Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals
  • My Prediction: Najee Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Harris was wasted on the Steelers offense this year. Chase on the other hand had everyone tasting his dust as he ran away with this one over the final few weeks of the regular season. If you told me at the start of the year that New England Patriots rookie QB Mac Jones would be in the conversation, I would have been ecstatic, and guess what, I am now.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

  • Actual Winner: Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys
  • My Prediction: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of the Cleveland Browns

A unanimous winner, and rightfully so. Parsons is so fucking good.

Fantasy Baseball Recap: Week Eight (May 22 – May 28)

I am starting to think that I am the “bye week” in this league. But hey, them the brakes. I had some rough choices in terms of lineup selections over the week and I didn’t adjust my lineup on Sunday because I forgot while I was on the golf course. Played Fairchild Wheeler in Fairfield,…

Reflection On “The Big Picture” 1990s Summer Blockbuster Draft

Loved this draft idea from The Big Picture crew. I am not going to be able to do my normal redrafting because there is just enough movies to pick from, but I will have fun going through all of the different categories and determining what my dream lineup would be from the movies i have…
