Before I delve into the trailer, the first thing to point out is that The Harder They Fall is going to do numbers. Big time numbers.

Right from the start The Harder They Fall is a vibe. We have pump up music with a slow-mo beat drop and Idris Elba being a cool-ass dude by the name of Rufus Buck. What a f’in name.

Rufus Buck is the leader of an outlaw gang which also includes Trudy Love (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKieth Stanfield). Opposing him in the movie is Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) and his gang, Stagecoach Marie (Zazie Beetz) and Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi). This professional rivalry is going to be a bloody, violent affair.

What I see with The Harder They Fall is a more rambunctious and over-the-top Django Unchained (2012). I want to make it explicitly clear that this movie will not be on the same quality tier. All I am saying is that there will be slow-mo gun fights, a cool as central character with a lean toward violence and a ton of action. Maybe it will be a better modern western than the remake of the Magnificent Seven (2016).

For writer and director Jeymes Samuel, this is going to be a big stepping stone. It is his first major motion picture and his second western film in his career. Samuel made They Die By Dawn (2015) and based of that trailer, this seems like a major step up.

The Harder They Fall comes out on Netflix on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.
