QUICK THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE

The Ladies Meet The Families
  • The family that Daisy and Kelsey would meet are Joey’s parents and sisters.
    • Have to say right off the jump that Joey’s sisters are awesome.
    • We also spend almost zero time with Joey’s brother. Did he get a single solo line in?
    • Joey’s family seems to have really bought into this process. They didn’t have many questions or worries about the show’s format for finding love.
      • Have to think that this is because they saw Joey go through it with Charity and they saw that it could really work, in terms of getting their son to fall in love.
  • Daisy got to meet Joey’s family first.
    • Daisy was a little antsy going into the date. Not the greatest start in the world.
    • The shocking moment came when Daisy was talking with the sisters and she said emphatically that she would say yes if Joey was to propose to her.
      • This is the sort of certainty that Joey has been looking for.
    • In regards to the rest of Daisy’s time with the family, it was all just fairly standard. Nothing crazy about it. Nothing bad, nothing great. Just a good kind, meet the parents type of date.
    • The most meaningful moment of the family date comes when Joey’s mom says that she would be honored to have Daisy as a daughter-in-law.
  • Kesley meets Joey’s family second.
    • The first thing I noticed is that Joey opened the door for Daisy, but he did not open it for Kesley.
      • Not that this means anything, but there it is.
    • The moment everyone knew this was locked up is when Kesley picked a bit of food or something off of Joey’s cheek. You have to be very comfortable with one another to do that.
      • Joey’s parents noticed this. They knew what this moment meant.
    • Kesley’s talk with Joey’s family has a lot more tears.
      • She cries with the sisters, and with his mom.
    • Kelsey got asked the same question as Daisy in regards to her potential reaction to a proposal and her reaction is not nearly as certain as Daisy’s.
      • This raises a few red flags with the sisters, and they tell Joey this.
        • Turns out Joey just kinda sorta ignores this, Whoops. Oh, well.
    • There was a distinctive difference in tone between Daisy and Kelsey’s meeting of the parents.
      • The difference in tone matches the personalities. Daisy being a bit up guarded and Kesley just letting it all go.
    • There is also a comment about the Lizzie McGuire moment Kelsey and Joey shared in Spain and it was really cute.
Daisy’s Final Date
  • Let’s be honest, Dasiy got fucked on her final date.
    • Joey notes that Daisy likes these spiritual adventures, but on a day where there is probably a fuck ton to talk about, the pair are kept in silence with a stranger in the room.
      • This really, really fucks with Daisy because she can sense that things are off.
        • Daisy is getting the short end of the stick throughout this episode, yet my opinion of Daisy only grew.
    • Daisy’s woman intuition is dialed up to a bajillion. She just knows
    • Despite having doubts, Daisy tells Joey in the final portion of their date that she is in love with him.
      • How does Joey respond? By talking about how tough it is to be backstabbed and how he doesn’t say anything because it can lead to more hurt later.
        • Too late Joey. Your phrasing was enough. You could see the realization of processing in Daisy’s face.
          • The wheels are churning, speeding up to a deadend.
    • When Daisy says: “If I’m being 100% honest, I don’t think it’s me.”
      • Oh my goodness, that just broke me.
Kelsey’s Final Date
  • The mood with Joey and Kelsey during their spa date is night and day with Daisy’s.
    • We see Joey and Kesley laughing, smiling, touching each other lovingly and enjoying each other’s company.
    • We don’t see the stress of the situation weighing on them. It seems very hunky dorey.
  • There is a moment when Kelsey is talking about how hard it is…and Joey gives the biggest hint that he is going to end up picking her.
    • Joey says that you have nothing to worry about. He looks dead in her eyes and says that.
      • I think that is pretty telling. Watching the show and seeing this made it very easy to see who was going to be the winner.
  • Joey and Kesley also get to feel each other up a little bit. Give a little massage. Very nice and good for them.
  • The evening portion of the date could not have gone more opposite than Daisy.
    • Kesley gets all the validation that she could possibly need.
      • In an interview with Chicks In The Office of Barstool Sports, Joey notes that he journaled for the first time about Kelsey and he gave her the notes.
        • We didn’t see this in the edit, and that’s because it probably would have been even more obvious that Kelsey was winning.
        • I guess if you look close enough you could see Kelsey shooing away some notes before Daisy comes to sit down with her next morning….
The Sitdown & Lead-Up.
  • Before we talk about the most talked about part of the episode, I must note that both dresses that Daisy and Kesley are wearing in preparation for this proposal are outstanding. The dresses are stunning.
  • Alright, Daisy is in her head, but for the right reason.
  • Let’s make some history.
    • Daisy goes and visits Kelsey in her room before the proposal.
      • Can you imagine being Kesley and opening up that door? Bonkers.
      • Daisy asks Kesley about how her date was, and even asks her to go into more details.
        • Kesley saying that she did get lots of validation for Joey hurts Daisy. It upsets her because she gave 100% to this process and now she just knows that she is not the one.
  • And then the ladies ride in the same car to the proposal site.
    • ANOTHER FIRST!
      • The editing here was a nice blend of clever and obvious.
        • There was a preview at the start of the episode that showed the two in the car together so it was teased, but the waist up shots to build up the tension was clever enough.
The Proposals
  • Daisy, you are a fucking rockstar.
    • Her strutting down the boardwalk looking gorgeous in that red dress knowing that she isn’t going to be chosen is rather remarkable.
    • Joey gives his speech, and before he could break up with her, she begins giving a speech.
      • This speech brought me to tears. I will say it. Having Daisy break up with Joey was nuts.
        • “Falling in love with you has been so fun and I do love you…The thing is, you’re not going to choose me. The last couple of days I realized that you’re not my person and I know that you know that. And as much as that hurts, I know you said you want the best for me. So I’m going to do what’s best for me and I’m going to go.”
    • Joey’s face when Daisy says this. OMG. He broke down. The shock on his face. The sadness of the truth.
      • There has to be some sort of relief for Joey too, to have to say the words that he has been dreading for so long?
        • Daisy takes the noble step of doing this for Joey. She did it for herself, but she also knew what she was doing. She did it for him, in part.
    • And then Daisy denies having Joey walking her out. She says that she needs to do it herself, for herself.
      • WHOOF!
    • It’s after this breakup that we see all the promotional footage from the start of the season come to light.
      • We see Joey crying alone, the rose there. We see him taking off his jacket and acting all exasperated. We see the heartbreak.
    • This whole sequence is brutal, but it’s also beautiful because it was so honest.
      • An amicable breakup.
  • Kelsey gets her moment now. Let’s have a bit of happiness!
    • Before Kelsey walks down to meet Joey, she meets with Daisy.
      • “I know your mom’s going to be looking down on this moment and she’s going to be so happy.” – You say this and expect me NOT TO CONTINUE CRYING????
    • Kelsey looks stunning in the white dress. Stunning.
    • Kesley’s speech is nice and all, but nothing is as nice when Joey finally says “I love you” and Kesley’s face lights up.
    • There is not as much to talk about this proposal because it all just plays out so nice.
      • It’s all loving. They are just so freaking happy!
        • Kelsey has the biggest grin on her face. Even more so than normal.
The In-Studio Portion
  • Jesse Palmer is loving the drama.
    • Going into and out of the commercial breaks, Jesse is hamming it up for the camera and for the crowd.
      • He is getting damn good at his job.
  • Now that she is over, it’s time for the live portion of the show.
    • Always a bit underwhelming after the drama of the show, especially this show, but let’s see what’s going on here.
  • Joey is the first time to come out, and he gets a ROUSING, STANDING, OVATION.
    • Jesse Palmer asks Joey if he knew about the conversation that Daisy and Kelsey had.
      • Joey did not know and he called it a special moment of empowerment. It’s true. It was.
    • The next question to Joey is how he reacted to Daisy’s speech at the final rose altar.
      • Joey’s first thought was how she knew. At the moment he is all wrapped up in it, but watching the edit that ABC put together, it was sorta obvious.
        • This is not a bad thing. This is a good thing. It ended up being great.
  • Time for Daisy to come out and meet with Joey.
    • Daisy looks great. A bit of a glow up.
    • My fiancée was confused by the change in Daisy’s voice. She thought there was something off.
      • I will say that I did not notice, but I will also say that I am bad with pitch and tone. There were others on the Internet who also noticed.
    • Daisy says the first time she got real worried about her chances came at the rose ceremony when Rachel got sent home. Joey and Kelsey shared a look, and Daisy felt it in her gut.
      • Those who have had this feeling know it sucks.
    • Daisy also had a fantastic honest moment about feeling validated with her feelings because she saw it all while watching it back. She felt it in the moment, and she wasn’t wrong, because now the rest of America has seen it.
    • Daisy’s mantra to “lead with love and grace and understanding” is a good thing for people to live by.
    • These two show how you can be amicable exes. It does not need to be testy at all.
  • It’s time for Kesley now. Let’s get to the loveeeeeee!
    • Jesse immediately brings up Kelsey’s mom…which is both expected but did we really that right of the jump?
      • Kelsey is not an ugly crier. That is huge.
        • I do suppose one thing about the Bachelor television universe is that you do see your partner cry a lot. In normal dating, the first time you see your partner cry is usually a big deal.
          • Hopefully you’re not the one to cause it.
    • Much like Kesley’s final date with Joey, there are not that many notes because it all went well. It all went according to plan.
    • There were more than a few cutaways to Mark, Kelsey’s dad.
Jenn Is The New Bachelorette
  • So, Jenn is the new Bachelorette.
    • Are we excited about this? Are we meant to be happy about this?
    • One thing is that there was definitely a shock value to this announcement because NO ONE saw it coming.
      • Everyone that I know who cares about or discusses the Bachelorette wanted Maria, but sorta expected Daisy.
        • Throughout the first part of this finale, it was totally fair to think that Daisy was going to be the Bachelorette.
          • The fact that she wasn’t chosen, and she’d have the chance to choose…well that that just makes too much sense.
            • To make things fair, Daisy went live on the aftershow with Jesse and said she wasn’t ready for it. She answered the viewing audience’s questions.
        • From slothing, and based on my intuition, I think that Maria turned it down. I think she saw the opportunity to be bigger without the show.
          • My coworker at work made a good point that she is perhaps like Tyler Cameron. Everyone loved him on the show and wanted him to be the Bachelor, but he knew he could be bigger.
    • So Jenn is The Bachelorette.
      • I keep on trying to tell myself this so it gives me a reaction, but the worse feeling I have is meh.
        • I don’t have a strong feeling either way about Jenn being The Bachelorette.
          • I feel somewhat bad for her because she was third pick, and she has to know that.
          • My sympathy for her went way down once she started talking to Jesse.
            • My big takeaway from the sit down is that Jenn is not media trained
              • There were pretty obvious talking points that Jesse and Jenn were supposed to hit, and those talking points came and went with a fascinatingly small amount of grace.
                • The shot-o-clock was remarkably cringy, and the talk about her being a huge diversity push for the franchise just seemed a bit, well not a bit, very forced.
    • So Jenn is The Bachelorette.
      • Jenn is 26 years old, and she will not be finishing her medical studies. She is in the Bachelor universe now.
      • Jenn is 26 years old, which is older than I thought, but I do not trust her to have very mature conversations.
        • Is this mean? It might be very mean.
          • My thought process is that we just came off a season where the lead and all the ladies had remarkably honest conversations with one another. They were able to articulate feelings.
            • I don’t trust Jenn to do this. It may just be mean.
    • I will be watching The Bachelorette, but my excitement level for it has dwindled quite a bit.
      • Sorry, it’s the truth.
