Scene Appreciation: Kronk & “The Emperor’s New Groove”

Another short post, but it is what it is. On site of the FDNY/NYPD hockey game at UBS arena, and haven’t had enough time to prep blog posts. We move on. Short and sweet.

Here at Stanko’s Stance, we appreciate The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) and we appreciate Kronk. An unsung Disney production has lived on decades after its initial release because of one man, and one man only. And this one man, who we all know, has two scene stealing moments that cement The Emperor’s New Groove as a surprisingly quotable animated family classic.
Everyone, and I mean everyone who has a funny bone has impersonated Yzma, voiced by Eartha Kitt. “WRONG LEVER!!!!!”
Patrick Warburton’s time to shine as Kronk comes a bit later when Yzma asks her henchman about the all-important poison. Remember when Warburton appeared as part of Bachelor Universe on ABC? Crazy stuff. I think he was a relative of Zach?
Much like how everyone knows about the lever scene and can quote that 100%, there is this snippet where everyone misquotes it lovingly.
Yzma: So, is everything ready for tonight?
Kronk: Oh, yeah. I thought we’d start off with soup and a light salad, and then see how we feel after that.
Yzma: Not the dinner. You know…
Kronk: Oh, right. The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco’s poison. That poison?
Yzma: Yes! That poison.
Kronk: Got you covered.
Yzma: Excellent. A few drops in his drink, and then I’ll propose a toast, and he will be dead before dessert.
Kronk: Which is a real shame, because it’s gonna be delicious.
Thank the heavens for movies like The Emperor’s New Groove. Unsung favorites that stand the test of time due in large part to iconic, quotable moments.
