• Here we go. Time to being Halo season two. I watched season one with high expectations, and then it ended up being rather bad. Heading into season two, my expectations are low, but there is no denying that science fiction action slop based off one of my favorite video game franchises is directly in my viewing wheelhouse. With that in mind, I am going to be doing what I did last season. It is going to be a stream of consciousness reaction to the episodes.
  • I am going to be looking up the names of characters. IMDB cast list may have to be favorited on every browser I have.
  • I just remembered the absolute travesty that was the love story between (looking up character names) Makee and Master Chief. That was absolute dog shit.
  • Also, if we can kill (again looking up name) Kwan, that would make me remarkably happy.
  • I am having some real positive thoughts before the episode even starts.
  • Pablo Schreiber is absolutely ripped. That’s awesome. Good for him.
  • We are on planet Sanctuary. This is also the episode name.
  • The Spartans are upset that they are babysitting people and not in the action.
    • This means that they are going to need to be placed in the action…if I had to bet.
  • Looks like the military forces in this temporary evacuation of this religion are not getting along with the red-donning crew of followers.
  • Vannak appears to have pulled his “pellet” as Kai did. So now we have Kai, Vannak and Master Chief without the inhibitor.
  • “Not everything has a soul, some have nothing at all.”
    • This quote from the Shaman person then a direct cut to Master Chief.
    • The Shaman is asking the Spartan if he has family or faith.
      • If only this Shaman knew.
  • Master Chief is going to go and get the Marines at Bravo because all of their communications are out and team Alpha has no idea what’s going on.
  • Naturally we are going to lose Master Chief in the fog on the mountain that he is scaling.
    • Isolate the hero, let him take on enemies alone and show his macho charisma.
  • Master Chief is checking on an eerie feeling he has.
    • Ah he has found the remainder of the Bravo team.
      • Only a few people left.
  • Ah yes, something is in the fog! Here we are. A silent thing that is taking the Bravo team with ease.
    • A ghostly enemy.
    • OH NICE! INCOGNITO COVENANT! WITH LASER SWORDS!
      • THIS IS GOOD. I like this. THis is brutal Halo stuff.
        • The action looks good thus far.
    • Love seeing the shotgun in action.
    • These laser swords are sick.
    • DO we ever see Spartans use a knife in video games?
      • That seems new.
    • The super powered Spartan pistol works the same in the game as it does the show. It is a crazy effective weapon.
    • Alas, Bravo team is dead. No way anyone survived.
      • Oh, well Perez is still alive it appears.
  • OH SNAP. THIS VISUAL IS ACTUALLY LEGIT. All of those covenant with the swords in the fog, and then them walking away. That is actually awesome.
  • Holy hell, this is a damn good start to the episode.
  • They are lasering this planet to death.
    • And there goes a ship.
  • I am shocked to say that this episode is going well thus far. Still plenty of time to mess it up.
  • The Shaman is going to stay on the planet and walk toward the fire.
    • Eh, I didn’t love the Shaman saying something about finding faith to Master Chief and seeing his death.
      • Obviously links to the start of the episode where we hear Cortana say “We are losing him!” Master Chief as a tear rolled down his pale face.
  • Listen, the theme song and intro to the show still work well.
  • What the fuck was that radio “Stay With Me” thing in the shower.
  • We are re-introduced to (check name) Admiral Jacob Keyes.
    • He lets the Spartans know that what happened on Sanctuary has been happening in other places as well, including Madrigal…which is from season one.
    • Master Chief notes that the Covenant were on the planet before they glassed it.
    • James Ackerson has replaced Dr. Catherine Halsey as the leader of the Spartan program.
      • This snooty Ackerson character is saying all the right things. But will he have the proper actions?
        • I highly doubt it.
  • Alright, we are no longer within machinery. We are on some planet that appears to be a pile of rock and some sort of circus environment
    • Ah, this is where Soren is. I actually remembered Soren!
    • These victims on this platform are in a struggle between indentured servitude for two years or being sent back into the void of space.
    • Oh, it would appear that this innocent boy knows the whereabouts of Catherine Halsey…and she has a large bounty on her head.
    • We are in some sort of pirate den.
    • Soren seems to have some sort of right-hand-man who will look into this innocent boy to see if he is telling the truth.
  • We are back in the industrial world. Master Chief out of suit taking a peak of the corporal who has clear PTSD from when she was saved by Master Chief while the Covenant were attacked on Sanctuary.
  • Master Chief is talking with Ackerson and states that he thinks that Sanctuary was an example of The Covenant training for something that will be used for a time later. Whatever time that is.
  • Ackerson has begun to question Master Chief in regards to Cortana, the illegal AI that was implemented into Master Chief at the best of Halsey.
    • Ackerson is trying his best to connect with “John”…but Master Chief is not pleased with the way it is going.
  • Soren is talking with his wife…or lover…or whatever partner.
    • She is pointing out that Halsey is a trigger point for Soren.
    • What treasure did Soren bring back from Madirgal
    • Soren no longer strikes fear into other families…or pirate bases.
    • I am very confused by this storyline. I do not know what is going on.
  • Perhaps it would have been a good idea to have had a brief WHAT HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY before the start of this episode because I’ve got nothing.
  • Corporal Perez is getting accommodated for her efforts on Sanctuary.
    • She merely survived it.
  • Ackerson is giving a press conference and lied about the Silver Team and Master Chief being unavailable to talk.
    • He really is spewing bullshit about heroes and winning the fight, ect.
  • It would appear that Silver Team is feuding with other Spartan teams, or high-level military forces.
    • Classic locker room fodder.
    • Cobalt is the opposing team. They complained about it being put on an escort mission.
      • Ackerson is not telling them about the possibility for Covenant because Ackerson doesn’t believe that Master Chief and Silver Team are capable of being trusted because he thinks they are compromised.
  • Soren is going out to work. Which means he is going to kill some people. Or hurt some people.
    • The idea that he is the boss, and he needs to show everyone he can still be a bad man.
    • Soren saying to his kid that “there is no such thing as monsters” is a lie when there are literal monsters ravaging the universe.
      • Another reference to souls this episode.
  • Soren going to work is him talking to this curly head boy about Halsey.
    • This curly head boy’s name is Felix.
  • Master Chief is in disguise amongst the locals.
    • Ho ho ho, we have Admiral Margaret from the first season. She is back.
      • We liked her, I think.
      • She is out of the UNSC but she has information
        • She knows about Ackerson. She knows he is very political.
      • Admiral Margaret is giving Master Chief a covert mission to find out more about the Covenant’s activities.
        • I kind of like this.
  • Well it would appear that the story Felix was talking about with regards to some ship having Halsey in cryosleep…well that ship seems to be falling apart after having been blown up in space and now Felix and Soren are going on it together.
    • In case we forgot, there is some dialogue exposition that Soren used to be a Spartan and Halsey used to take little kids.
    • Felix is getting a bit too chatty. Something is up here.
    • They are doing this space walk with magnetic foot thing.
      • Reminds me a tad bit of Face/Off .
    • Soren has been double-crossed.
      • Felix is a cop of some sort?
      • This is a clever surprise. Again, I didn’t really see this particular twist for Felix coming.
  • Dare I say, I am enjoying this premiere episode for season two.
    • Though with that being said, I enjoyed the pilot episode in season one as well.
  • Is Master Chief going to some sort of therapy? It is like robotic therapy with a hologram.
    • He is missing Cortana.
    • He gets PTSD as well?
    • Oh, is he missing Makee?
  • What monster is this female voice talking about?
    • Is the monster “The Flood”
    • The monster can take away anything you love.
  • Soren’s family learns that he has been captured…or they are saying he is dead?
  • Kinda cool that the aerial shot of the covenant ships.
  • AH FUCK. Kwan still exists.
    • What space hieroglyphics/drawings was she looking at?
  • Overall, I must say that I am rather impressed by tis first episode. It was not complete, utter, garbage.
  • It did throw me for a loop that this episode was titled Sanctuary and I just wrote a blog about a movie called Sanctuary (2023). The word doesn’t come up that often. Also, what a weird name for a planet.
