Back At The REEEEEEM Fantasy Football Week Semifinals Recap
PREAMBLE
Here we are. We have reached the end. The championship stage is set. It will be third seeded Ronan McClorey, manager of Now You Cee Dee, Now You Donโt, battling it out against fourth seeded Tommy Simon, manager of Across The Pond With London.
Both Ronan and Tommy dispatched of their semifinal opponents with relative ease. Tommy had a monster second week that put Steve in a hole far too deep. Ronan used an authoritative week 14 to dispel McGinnityโs hope for the matchupโs second half.
Tommy Simon is looking for his third Back At The Reeeeeem Fantasy Football Championship. If he is able to secure the RJR Memorial Trophy, it will be his first title since 2017-18. T-Si would also become the league leader in terms of championships won, taking the lonesome top pedestal spot above Matthew Buzzi and myself.
Ronan last won a Back At the Reeeeeem Fantasy Football championship in 2018-19, and such is the only title to his name. Last year Ronan made the playoffs but fell in the semifinal, and it was Tommy Simon who claimed the bronze medal over him in the winnerโs bracket consolation match. This time around there is far more at stake.
The winner of the Back At The Reeeeeem Fantasy Football Championship will win the RJR Memorial Trophy. They will also win 350 dollars. The loser of the championship match will have to bear the burden of disappointment and regret, but theyโll be 100 dollars richer for it.
Thank you Jimmy for being prompt with this last place punishment payment, and Steve has already been paid out for his Regular Season Championship.
Now onto the final two weeks of the season.
Let’s get going.
SEMIFINALS SCOREBOARD
The regular season champion could not get past the last postseason addition, Tommy Simon. The first week of this semifinal was remarkably close with T-Si having just a 2.44 point lead. The large margin of victory is a result of the second week where Tommy (despite performing below projections) bested Steve, 115.48 to 78.72. The final verdict read 245.9 to 206.7.
For Steve, the only double-digit scorer in week 15 was Jalen Hurts on Monday night. Steve was perhaps grasping at straws hoping that Hurts and DeVonta Smith could combine with Jason Myers for a truly outrageous miracle, but such a big leap was only a flicker. Javonte Williams had 16.6 points in week 14 against the Chargers, but only three points against Detroit in week 15. Garrett Wilson, Puca Nacua and Derrick Henry were all fellow double-digit to single-digit droppers.
Turns out that having an MVP caliber quarterback on your fantasy team can lead to good things. T-Si got 47.1 points over the two weeks from Brock Purdy. He has now had three straight games with 21 or more points, and its been five over the last six weeks. Chubba Hubbard got the call up and scored double-digit points twice, which is a bit of a surprise. DJ Moore had a massive week 14 with 23.8 points, and Sam LaPorta matched that in week 15 with 26.1 points. And how about Saquon Barkley and Drake London both putting up huge numbers in week 14 despite playing for terrible teams.
This semifinal had its bite muzzled in week 14 when Ronan sucked the life out of McGinnity, 149.54 to 83.54. That is a 66 point lead for those counting at home. McGinnity had the scoring edge in week 15, but such a deficit was insurmountable for Team Rum CMC. Christian McCaffrey scored 39.2 points on Week 15, a damn fine comeback attempt but a futile one nonetheless.
Having two of the best wide receivers in all of football as your two top dogs has to be a lovely comfort. Deebo Samuel and CeeDee Lamb combined for 46.6 points in week 14, and then in week 15 the duo scored 35 points. That alone is a great start. But letโs throw in the running back with the most touchdowns in the league. Raheem Mostert had 39.8 points in the semifinals. And it doesnโt matter that Travis Kelce is losing a step if Rashee Rice is beginning to develop the connection with Mahomes needed to win.
Mcginnity did get fucked with Justin Herbert scoring only 1.84 in week 14 and getting hurt in the process. But alas, Tua struggled in week 14 too with only 9.1 points so it would have done no good to switch. And Matt went to OBJ in week 15 after he scored 17.7 points in week 14. The placement among the playing resulted in just 1.9 points.
The two top scoring teams, both in terms of points scored and Total Team Points moved on. Nobody can feel too let down by this.
McGinnity only got 14.8 points from his quarterback position over the two weeks. That is a tough scene. Very tough scene.
He tried to make up for it with 81.10 points from his running backs. The best in the league. Christian McCaffrey is a god amongst men, but it still wasnโt enough.
Steve had the top scoring tight end and defense/special teams performances of the week. Not enough for the regular season champ.
Ronan got 27 points from his kicker over two weeks. That is a crazy amount. Steveโs 24 points is impressive enough.
We will be previewing only the matchups that matter. Apologies to all those offended.
No. 3 Ronan McClorey vs. No. 4 Tommy Simon
Ronan and Tommy matched up only once this year in week nine. Ronan won the matchup 126.26 to 109.18.
Ronan got over 50 combined points from Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, and Austin Ekeler managed to produce good numbers with 20 points. Ronan could look at his bench and see C.J. Stroud with 41.8 points on his bench, but that’s small potatoes with a victory in hand.
Tommy didn’t have any player score more than 20 points. Well, perhaps I should correct myself. The Chargers defense scored 26.0 points against the New York Jets offense. But in terms of position players, Lamar Jackson scored just 11.48 points, his third lowest output of the season. His struggles stretched down to his bench where he had just 26.2 points. One of those weeks for Tommy Simon.

“Left some points out there on the bench. Good season, but couldn’t get it done. Congrats to Tommy and Ronan. Until next year, Zay Flowers”
Steve Kultzow – Manager of Cook Pu
“First off, I would like to congratulate Steve on a great season. His team battled and made it really close after the first week. I’m proud of our guys. We’ve battled throughout the entire season. The job is not done yet. We have a really tough matchup against Coach McClorey’s team. He has a great team. Will see who comes out on top.”
Tommy Simon – Manager of Across The Pond With London
“The team went off week 1 of the first-round matchup so we didn’t have to sweat it out week 2. Proud of this team I hope we can continue and carry this momentum into the championship against rival coach T-Si. The only disappointment on the season for me is making maybe the worst trade in fantasy. I had to watch White and Gibbs put up 20+ points each again this week (both top 10 RBs on the season). While Ekeler was the 4th leading rusher on his team! Ekeler really might get benched for the championship.”
