The Real Reason For Sundays Fantasy Football Week 4 Recap
PREAMBLE
This week we had four matches that were decided by single digits. Even decimal point values. Then there were also two matches that greatly affected the mean margin to larger than our collective minds would think.
Michael Kenney gets his first win. Two teams have extra tough losses to swallow, and two teams remain undefeated.
There were shifts in the early season projections with a few of the results this week, but with this being early in the season, who knows what to believe?
Now week five is approaching and it is the first week with byes that may affect anyoneโs roster. So begins the time to forecast how your future matchups pair with your opponentโs bye week obstacles.
Let’s get after it.
WEEK 4 SCOREBOARD
Last week I eked by with an undeserving win against Eric. This time around I took care of business. Anthony Richardson and his great second half against the Rams led to 29.6 points. A.J. Brown scored 38.5 points and his teammate DโAndre Swift cycled through for 17.9 points. The surprise is the Los Angeles Chargers defense scoring my 16.0 points.
Greg Brickโs team name of Derby Dumpster Fires was sadly fitting to his teamโs performance this week. This week he should just print out the scoreboard, take it to the back yard and light it on fire. His defense and kicker combined for 26 points, which is more than his running backs, or pass catcher points combined.
What if I told you that Mike Kenney put forth the best week of anyone thus far this season while his quarterback had his worst start of the year. Tua Tagovailoa had only 13.98 points, his worst of the season, but the Dolphin was rescued by Derrick Henry and Kyren Williams and DeโVon Achane who combined for 82.08 points.
List had a tough week. His turn to throw away the tape. Bury it in the backyard. For the second time this season he ranked 11th in points scored in wide receiver points and kicker points. It is bonkers that the 49ers dominated the Cardinals with Deebo Samuel doing absolutely nothing. We wonโt see Samuel scoring 0.6 points again this season.
Honest question for you Timmy. Would you have rather lost by a standard 15 points, or would you rather get this close in a crazy possible MNF miracle only to fall just short? Never would have thought that the Seattle defense would score 29 points. Not sure if either Timmy or Bove were awake, but it would have been a stressful ending to watch
Mark Andrews woke up and had his Wheaties scoring 25.0 points against the Cleveland Browns. Justin Herbert has scored over 20 points in every game this far this season. Timmy got unlucky with Kirk having his worst game of the season thus far.
Another pretty damn close matchup here. Eric gets the best of Billy due in large part to Josh Allen going off for a season best 36.5 points. The best part of Ericโs roster is Alvin Kamaraโs statline. Kamara had 13 receptionsโฆfor only 33 yards. Like, what? I mean he scored 21.4 points for Eric because of the PPR scoring system. Welcome back Kamara, indeed.
Billy, I also didnโt think that CJ Stroud would dice up the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. I never would have thought that TJ Watt and company would score negative points. If the Steelers scored just one point, then Billy would have won the matchup.
This matchup between Huntley and Gabe is worthy of a championship label. Outstanding effort from both teams. This is by far the most combined points between two teams thus far this season. Gabeโs 152.56 point total is 34.86 points greater than his previous season-best point total of 117.7.
Some sad twists of fate for Huntley. Every single week before this one he had scored more than Gabe, yet now Andrew is 2-2 and Gabe is 4-0. If it makes Andrew feel a bit better, according to ESPN he still has a 65% to make the playoffs. Those odds will improve when Jaylen Waddle gets back on his fast tracks. Hard to believe he is staying in single digits for the weeks going forward.
Usually 1.52 points is the closest matchup of the week, but this time around Vaghi and Michaud need to take second place. Michaud picks up his second win of the season by the skin of his teeth. Never would have thought that Patrick Mahomes would be human, scoring just 13.22 points, yet that measly amount was just enough. Michaud also has to be thanking Montgomery for going off and carrying the load while Ekeler still remains on the sideline.
Justin Fields needed to play Denver in order to become a throwing quarterback. Wonder if the same will happen to Zach Wilson this week. Puka Nacua did his best to score in the Rams game against the Colts, but all in all the effort fell just short.
Finished top four in eight different statistical categories this week, yet did not win his matchup.
The only categories that Huntley didnโt finish top half in were Points on Bench and Highest Scoring Player/Position.
Huntley has lost two straight matches despite having scores that should result in wins. Last week he had the fifth most points and seven categories where he ranked fifth or better.
Billy has ranked top three in points scored on his bench each of the first four weeks.
This is the first week where Bove got lucky. He won this week despite having the eight ranked points scored.
For the first time this season, Eric did not rank last in running back points. Eric ranked eighth this week with his personal best 23.90 point effort.
This week Gabe got 100.80 points from running backs which was the best in the league. Previous to this week, his highest running back output was 36.0 points.
Kenney erupts with a 164.86 victorious week. He sets a new league-best for points scored in a week and points compared to projected.
Michaud has never ranked better than 10th in points scored by a tight end.
I have my first week where I donโt rank 10th or worst in full team points.
Vaghi has ranked top three in wide receiver points for each of the past three weeks
The following league-best marks were set in week four:
Points Scored: Kenney | 164.86
Points Compared To Projected: Kenney | +46.16
Quarterback Points: Kenney | 36.5
Running Back Points: Gabe | 100.80
Highest Scoring Player/Position Points: Gabe | 49.7
The following league-worst marks were set in week four:
Points Compared To Projected: List | -50.18
Wide Receiver Points: Brick | 11.6
Huntley and Vaghi both have a right to feel angry about their losses having top-six point totals but an L on their plate.
You didnโt need a crazy defensive team effort to win this week: the top three teams were owned by Timmy, Huntley and Vaghi.
It was running backs who carried the week; the top three teams with running back points all won and the top two wide receiver point earning teams (and three of top five) lost.

WEEK 5 MATCHUPS
List is coming off a struggle of an outing against Kenney, but that means a bounce back is in his back pocket. I will be hoping that Kupp suits up and appears like something of his old self.
We will know where my team is after the Sunday afternoon games, so all the stress falls on Jackโs soldiers. Aaron Jones, Davante Adams and Jakobi Myers are all playing on Monday night (on Jackโs team), so neither one of us are going to be counting our eggs in our respective baskets too early.
We have the team that has been the best thus far this season vs. the team that showed out and broke out of its goose egg with a point explosion. Will the slow slimmer or the fast-burning ember take week two?
Kyren Williams is listed as questionable for Kenney, and he will need him to get the upset over Bove. This contest is going to pit the two main Miami Dolphins running backs against each other; Deโon Achane for Kenney and Raheem Mostert for Bove.
I look at Billyโs team and I am shocked that he is 1-3. You look at his wide receivers and he has the number one pick in Justin Jefferson, and the number one surprise in Nico Collins. On his bench this week is DK Metcalf. The man has depth. He is sitting his own Romeo Doubs each weekโฆwho is technically having a better season than Metcalf!
Greg is getting bit by the bye week. He will have to sit Rachaad White and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST, and as of Wednesday morning he does not have a replacement defense and Ezekiel Elliot is the sub into the running back slot.
Timmy Drakely has three Chargers on his roster, so this week was always going to be a challenge for him. Gabe may not have a quarterback on his roster as of my writing this because Deshaun Watson is on a bye and Kenny Pickett may not play.
Gabe has picked his starting lineup with great efficiency the last two weeks; he ranked 11th and 12th in bench points the past two weeks. Gabe also scored 100.80 points from his running backs in week four. The previous three weeks he had 103.3 points combined.
We have a battle of 2-2 teams here. Mahomes has not been stellar at the QB position, ranking eighth in fantasy points right now. Michaud is also going to know the zone of points he will need to beat because Eric has Josh Allen and the Buffalo defense going early in the morning on Sunday. Also Terry McLaurin is playing on Thursday night.
Love to see Jonathan Taylor in Ericโs lineup. Letโs hope he plays. Erc got hit with the WR injury bug with Tee Higgins and Mike Evans getting banged up, and Taylor buoyed some of his teamโs potential.
Bye, bye bye. Vaghi has Amara Cooper, Tyler Lockett, Zach Charbonnet, Jerome Ford, and Cameron Dicker on bye. Tough sledding, and it will be even tougher if Saquon Barkley still canโt make it to the field on Sunday. We hope for a high scoring TNF game between the Bears and Commanders for Vaghiโs sake.
Andrew can take it easy in the early afternoon because he only has two players snapping at 1 PM. One is Jaylen Waddle against the Giants, and the other is Hunter Henry who is on the Patriots so he will do nothing. Huntley needs a win badly, and he deserves one to.
TEAMS ON A BYE: Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
STANDINGS
Bove and Gabe stand pat in the top two spots.
Huntley moves up to third despite the loss, and Michaud clicks up on spot behind him.
Jack List falls from third to fifth.
Stanko has the largest jump this week going from 11th till sixth following his win over Brick.
Brick fell from seventh down to 12th.
Kenney climbs out of the gutter and takes 10th place.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
“For this first time this season my team doesn’t wallow in the well of disappointment. A.J. Brown came to play, and the rookie Anthony Richardson has taken the reigns as a potential starter going forward. With Cooper Kupp coming back next week (possibly), the expectations for my team may be changing. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.”
