We are back. Ghost Face is back. This time, in Manhattan.
Scream (2022) was a surprise hit last January. The movie has a strong blend of nostalgia and newcomers, blending the Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell)/Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) timeline with new age scream queens Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera)/Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega). Now in Scream VI (2023), we bring back Hayden Penettiere as Kirby to make it a trio of survivors in this latest installment.
Scream VI takes the horror outside of the suburbs and brings it into the cement jungle. After the opening snippet of Ghost face terrorizing a bodega, we get Sam Carpenter commenting how evil seems to have followed her. This is probably meant to land a both a physical and metaphorical level (you can’t escape evil from your past), but we are going to take it for more literally. Ghost face has followed Carpenter to NYC, and he has learned how to use shotguns.
Halfway through this trailer we get a very expansive shrine to Ghostface I can’t help but think this shrine looks like the Bat Cave with all of his or Robin’s various costumes.
I do love the homage to the Saw franchise and to Jigsaw with the phone call to Gale saying “Let’s Play A Game.” It goes a bit towards to shrine building too because we all know Jigsaw liked to make grand extravagant things. I may be reading to much into it, but that is what I am.
From the way this trailer is edited, there are going to be multiple people in the Ghostface costume again. The breaking in at Gale Weathers house, the talking on the phone and someone the killer is not out of breath? I think that there are multiple, or this trailer is doing a solid job of confusing the audience (and me).
The final portion of this trailer is much like the entire teaser trailer. It features the subway spooky scene of multiple possible killers, and honestly it is a great tension builder. Naturally claustrophobic. An atmosphere where people naturally want to ignore anything out of the ordinary. Oh, and it is Halloween time…so who really cares who is wearing a mask?
Also shoutout to this movie poster. It is fucking incredible. Love an original poster idea.
Scream VI launches into theaters one month from today on March 10, 2023.

This is the shit I love. Chapter 18 of The Mandalorian is fantastic television and excellent Star Wars. Plenty of surprises, a bit of exposition, cool visuals and unexplained expansion of lore and stakes; all of these things make The Mines Of Mandalore a great episode of television. From the start of the episode we…
