What we have here…is a Friday the 13th reboot but with LGBTQIA+ twist. This looks to be a slasher movie seasoned with a bit of queer.
The trailer itself reveals nothing. The plot is not discernible, and that is okay. We are not here for the plot. They/Them trailer plays heavily with the slash…because it’s a slasher movie…get it??
This is the second straight independent horror movie for Kevin Bacon. A couple years ago You Should Have Left (2020) came out with Amanda Seyfried and it was…fine. Nothing to-to special. In fact one could say it was not that great. Let’s be real. However, even with that being said, if a movie has Kevin Bacon attached, then I am attached to it as well.
They/Them is being headed by a John Logan, who despite his very stereotypical American name, has had a lot of success in Hollywood. He has been nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Adapted Screenplay for Hugo (2011), and Best Original Screenplay for The Aviator (2004) and Gladiator (2000). This is Logan’s first attempt at directing, but if his writing history is any indication of his abilities, then They/Them can be a success. Logan has written some horror flicks and television shows. He was a writer for the underrated Penny Dreadful and its lesser-received sequel Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels. He also partook in the last Ridley Scott alien movie, Alien: Covenant (2017).
Dude. Logan has written some well received stuff! Any Given Sunday (1999), The Last Samurai (2003), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (2007), Red (2010), Rango (2011) and and Skyfall (2012)!
How can you not be excited with what Logan’s resume is brining to the table!
