Leo and McKay. Yes, please and thank you. Every bit of this.

“The story of two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet earth.”

Director: Adam McKay
Writer: Adam McKay, David Sirota
Staring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Timothee Chalamet, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett
Streaming: Netflix
Release Date: December 24, 2021

Adam McKay is back on his comedic political vibes. Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiaksy (Jennifer Lawrence) are two lower level astronomers who have discovered a potential earth shattering comet that can possibly destroy planet earth.

We have President Janie Orlean (Meyrl Streep) and her advisor Jason Orlean (Jonah Hill) just digging daggers into the pair of scientists in the oval office. That is just a glimpse of the star power in the movie; we also have Timothee Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, Melanie Lynskey, Ron Perlman, Michael Chiklis, Matthew Perry, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, and Himesh Patel. I don’t love how in the trailer they decided to show Ariana Grande rather than some of these other big name actors, but I am probably in the minority.

I think a good list to make for a blog down the road are what directors in Hollywood can get whatever cast they want. This has Wes Anderson The French Dispatch (2021) vibes or any Quentin Tarantino project.

The only movie that Adam McKay has made that I didn’t love is Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), otherwise there has been entertainment galore.

Don’t Look Up airs on Netflix on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021.

Ranking NBR’s Top Movies From 2014

NBR stands for the National Board of Review and it was established in 1909. Every year they pick roughly 10 movies that they deem to be the best of the year, and they name one movie of the year. It is a bucket list accomplishment for me to eventually conclude every year’s list in full. […]
