PREAMBLE

Well folks, the regular season has come and gone. For most of us, the fantasy football season has come to a close. It was not the most thrilling final week of the regular season. The margin of victory was pretty large, and no playoff implication games came down to Monday night.

There was one major change cascading from this week’s results. Buzzi entered week 13 with a spot in the postseason. He leaves week 13 fuming at the idea of bye weeks after Thanksgiving. A handicapped Allen This Together has been subjugated to irrelevancy courtesy of a loss to me. Tommy Simon, I will accept any form of appreciation you are willing.

The premiere matchup of week 13 was Steve versus McGinnity. Steve entered the matchup with the better record, but McGinnity’s team has been the traditionally higher scoring through the season. Luckily for Cook Pu, nothing went to shit for him, and Steve will enter the postseason as the top dog and 100 dollars richer.

In terms of the other battle with money on the line, it was a battle between McLaughlin and Jimmy. The defending champion brought forth his winning pedigree one last time. Jimmy Simon, you fought valiantly to try and climb out of the gutter, but in the end you still got wet. Sorry man.

Let’s get going.

WEEK 13 SCOREBOARD

  • Spoiler. I have to say, I really enjoyed the role. I am sorry Buzzi, but having that little ribbon to pin on my chest at the end of this is a nice feeling. I am just going to take a moment to thank my team for continuing to fight. Sam Howell was a revelation off the waiver wire, and the eruption of production from Rachaad White, Jahmyr Gibbs and Michel Pittman Jr. helped this team overachieve at the end of the season.
    • For Buzzi, this has to sting. Buzzi finished the regular season ranked third in points scored, and had the fourth fewest points scored against. It was just horrendous luck that the one week he needed a win was the same week that Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills were on a bye. Thatโ€™s the grand scale outlook, but this week itโ€™s easy to pinpoint where things went to shit. Zero points from Marquis Brown or Juwan Johnson is tough to overcome, and getting negative points from the defense is always a major handicap.
  • In the battle for the Reeeeeem regular season championship, the victor ends up being Cook Pu, managed by Steven Kultzow. The HIMYM fan club came to play, and play effectively they did. Jalen Hurts managed a ton of garbage time points in the fourth quarter, including after his injury. DeVonta Smith benefited from Hurts coming back, ending up with 20.1 points. Puka Nacua had his first 20+ point game since week four, and Evan Engram had his best week of the entire season with 18.7 points.
    • McGinnity, fate just didnโ€™t want to intervene for you today. You made things interesting for Steve for a while, but crossing the finish line wasnโ€™t in the cards. NFC West compadres Christian McCaffrey and DK Metcalf did their jobs with a combined 55.2 points, but the rest of his roster couldnโ€™t muster that total.
  • Tommy Simon needed a win and a bit of help to get into the postseason, so I am sure he was double scoreboard watching when he could on Sunday. Thankfully for his stress levels, neither matchup he cared about ended up being that close. Brock Purdy was masterful against the Eagles so sitting Lamar Jackson seemed easy to swallow. We can ignore Tommyโ€™s starting running back outputs because Sam Laporta erupted for 24.5 points to cover up for some mistakes.
    • Lobo, you season ends with a loss to Tommy. The injury to Justin Jefferson set Lobo back, and from there he could not recover. A disappointing fantasy season from Jaylen Waddle was capped off with a 7.7 point week. Zack Moss also did nothing in his solo performance as only healthy Colts running back. Also Rhamondre Stevenson getting hurt had to be an early indication of how shitty the day was going to unfold.
  • A molly whopping. Is that the right way to phrase that? Ronan is entering the postseason having had a top two scoring output four of the last five weeks. He has had a top three Full Team Point Total in every matchup since week eight, and his wide receivers have been a top two four of the last five weeks. Ronan is cooking on all cylinders. He has to hope that his team is not peaking too early. 20+ scoring outputs from four players, including 33.8 points from Deebo Samuel is outrageously effective.
    • Ritz, sorry old chap. Never really stood a chance in this one. Forced into tough circumstances early on this season with the loss of Mike Williams and Kirk Cousins, your reliance on Keenan Allen and Isiah Pacheco came crumbling down. Pacheco is very fun to watch, the dude just runs so fucking hard. If Ritz can take solace in one thing, itโ€™s that he had the seventh most points scored which means he avoids the last place imprisonment.
  • In the battle for NOT last place, McLaughlin can raise his hand high. He can probably raise both hands because he left no doubt. Joe Mixon and Jaโ€™Marr Chase were both electric on Monday night, and surprisingly so. Chaseโ€™s 26.12 points is his highest point total since week five, and Mixonโ€™s 26.7 points is by far his highest score of the season. It is his only 20+ scoring game this year.
    • Jimmy, this league is not corrupt. Donโ€™t blame me. Tee Higgins did not score any points on Monday night, not that it would have mattered. Tank Dell getting hurt right from the get-go was an early nail in the coffin, and no skill players scoring more than 13.1 points is another bad sign. Much like how other teams suffered from late year byes, Jimmy had to go down without Stefon Diggs (WR7), and T.J. Hockenson (TE1).

  • Sometime in the near future I will be doing a blog that will act as a summary of all the statistics. It will also reveal who were the luckiest and unluckiest teams this season.
  • The average margin of victory in week 13 was the largest by a LARGE margin. In week 13, team’s averaged winning by 52.37 points. The next largest margin of victory came in week five at 31.73 points.
  • Ronan led the league in scoring for the first time ever.
    • Perhaps the lucky thing was having the week’s highest scoring kicker for the first time.
  • Tommy Simon had the highest scoring quarterback for the week for the first time ever.
  • Lobo had the lowest scoring running back output of the week for the first time.
  • Pretty standard week, and by that I mean that the top scoring teams won, and the teams that performed best against projected point total secured victories.
  • I will be doing a statistics deep dive next week, hopefully. If I have time.
    • During that deep dive I will be addressing who did the best and worst in each categories. I will also be calculating people’s records based of what the average score was per week, and also who finished in top half of scoring that (top five) and who was the bottom half (bottom five)
      • This may be confusing now, but I will do the best I can in simplifying it for you guys to take in. Any questions, ideas or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

TEAMS ON A BYE: ARIZONA CARDINALS, WASHINGTON COMMANDERS

STANDINGS

  • The final look at the standings this year. Take it in.
  • The top four seeds: Steve Kultzow, Matthew McGinnity, Ronan McClorey and Tommy Simon. This quartet are set to battle it out in the playoffs.
  • In terms of projections by ESPN, the biggest mover between draft day and now is McGinnity. He was projected last on draft day, but finishes second in the league. Not too shabby.
  • The biggest drop in the projections belongs to Jimmy Simon, who was ranked fourth on draft day but fell to ninth.
  • Nobody finished the regular season in their projected slot. The two teams that moved the least, or finished closest to their projected placements are Ritz and I, both of whom shifted two spots.
  • Steve Kultzow wins the regular season championship and ends up with the fifth highest scoring team. Much improvement compared to when he was undefeated and eighth in scoring.
  • Jimmy Simon has the dubious distinction of finishing in last place. He tied with Ritz record wise, but had less points scored.
  • Tom McLaughlin had the most points scored in the league but finishes in seventh place due in large part to having the third most points scored against him.
  • Tommy, Ronan and Lobo tied for the league-lead with 24 transactional moves.

This is why you keep fighting.”
