PREAMBLE

I am currently sitting in a hotel bed in Chicago and it is Wednesday morning. I am putting the disclaimer here that this whole blog may not be coming out until Thursday. I don’t have my normal train time and my duties today won’t allow for a lot of writing escapism.

The king of the league has been dethroned, well at least for one day. Bove suffered his first loss of the season to Eric in week nine. Bove remains in first place, but Eric is the hottest team in the land winning six straight matches.

Also the playoff picture just got a lot more complicated. I suffered another loss and now there are seven teams within two games of the fourth playoff spot. Dare I say it, Billy isn’t out of the playoff picture yet. At least not completely.

This week is going to be a bit nasty because there are a lot of good talented football teams on byes; Kanas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles. There may be some wins this week that will qualify as “scrappy”.

Let’s get going.

WEEK 9 SCOREBOARD

  • Timmy Drakeley had another monster week. His second straight week leading the league in scoring. CeeDee Lamb feasted against the Eagles, and Cole Kmet seems to love NOT having Justin Fields at running back. Oh sorry, I meant quarterback. Timmy also knew that he was in great shape when the Indianapolis Colts defense/special teams scored 27 points against the Carolina Panthers. Meanwhile, I have lost my second straight. Not great. Lamar Jackson scored only 11.48 points in a game where Baltimore scored 27 points. George Pickens had negative yards, and Cooper Kupp has a negative trend. A steep one.
  • Jack List was in a rough spot with five players on a bye. Brutal. He would have needed a miracle to come close, and that miracle did not happen. Emari Demercado was not active in week nine, but subbing in Jamal Williams would have made no difference. Michaud will take wins, no matter how ugly they are. Austin Ekeler did his thing with 21.0 points, and Dalton Schultz had a season-best (and maybe career-best) 27.0 points. Michaud played Keontay Ingram who was supposed to see more playing time with DeMarcado out….and he ran nine times for eight yards.
  • A close matchup! Granted, Vaghi was smart and sat Cameron Dicker on Monday night, so it should have been basically a 12-point win instead of two. But still, it was nice to see something close. Gabe was able to be in the game despite having Christian McCaffrey on a bye. C.J. Stroud is really fucking good and nearly carried Gabe to what could have been a death nail for Vaghi. Also, maybe good vibes for Gabe seeing how Antonio Pierce remembered that Josh Jacobs is good at running back.
  • Andrew Huntley finished -63.52 below his projected point total. Good lord almighty. Huntley is having the fantasy year from the deepest level of Dante’s hell. Huntley only had two players in double-figures. Tyler Higbee scored zero and five total players scored less than five points. Billy scored the seventh most points this week, but who cares. A win is a win. Billy also has to feel pretty great that Diontae Johnson scoring 22.0 points on his bench didn’t screw him out of a win. DK Metcalf has been super disappointing this year too. He is WR 46 on the year. He only has two games with over 100 yards ad he has…zero touchdowns?
  • The beast has been slain. Mr. Timothy Bove can no longer sit on the thrown of perfection. Eric defeats the league leader in definitive fashion. Josh Allen scored 24.72 points to lead the victorious team, but he was chased closely by the Cleveland Browns D/ST which scored 23.0 points against Arizona. Eric is in fine shame if Kelce is his lowest scorer, and he is still winning. Bove’s chances against Eric were slain by Bijan Robinson being forgotten by Arthur Smith, and Justin Herbert being boring on Monday Night football.
  • Greg Brick won this game with a respectful margin, but it could have been a thrashing if he suited up the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night. 26 points from a D/ST on your bench will make you hesitate to open up the app. It also isn’t often that Hill will be this team’s lowest receiving scorer. Michael Kenney could have forced the Chargers defense to be played if he played Joe Burrow instead of Tua Tagovailoa. Stefon Diggs scored again. Jonnu Smith had a 60-yard touchdown…on Michael’s bench. I played DeMario Douglas myself in a different league, but the faith in the Patriot was not smart by anyone.

WEEK 9 ANALYTICS

  • Billy has a really great tendency to get a lot of bench points. He has ranked top three in bench points five times this season.
  • Bove ranked in the bottom half in nine of the eleven statistical categories. First time he has struggled across the board.
  • Brick has had a top-five score in five straight weeks.
  • Over the past two weeks, Brick has the third and second most points from his quarterback position. Before that he had never ranked better than eighth in QB points.
  • Huntley finished this week ranked 12th in four different categories.
  • I had my worst scoring output since week three. First time I ranked below the bottom half in terms of points scored.
  • Timmy has the top score for the second straight week. This is rather remarkable because it weeks four through seven he never was better than tenth.

WEEK 10 MATCHUPS

THESE MATCHUP PREVIEWS ARE GOING TO BE SHORT BECAUSE I AM EXHAUSTED AND IT’S THURSDAY ALREADY, SO APOLOGIES.

  • I am down four starters this week with the Eagles and other various teams on a buy. I am going to try and get myself a FAB win this week to stop my slide. I don’t really think I have a shot, so Kenney may be getting his third win of the season. This was a dedicated loss week for me.
  • Vaghi will be projected to win this matchup once he replaces Dallas Goedert in his starting lineup. However, he doesn’t have a tight end on the roster. Both teams have RB1s going up against stout defenses. Maybe Jack should play both Raiders wide receivers to try and harness the Antonio Pierce energy.
  • Michaud is riding the high after an ugly win, and Huntley is in the midst of a “burn the tape” week. Huntley is without Jaylen Waddle, Jalen Hurts and Isiah Pacheco and Harrison Butker this week. Michaud is without Patrick Mahomes and DeVonta Smtih. It is going to be a grind for both teams, but i do love Michaud having Goff as a backup.
  • A battle for the second bye spot. With a win here, Gabe has a good chance to give himself the upper hand. Eric has won six in a row and tonight he has Adam Thielen going to try and get off to a good start. Meanwhile Gabe has DJ Moore. Thursday night has a lot of implications.
  • A family affair. Billy versus Timmy. Can Billy take down the hottest team in the league? There are players on both teams’ benches that are projected to outscore their starters, but perhaps Billy and Timmy are trying to out game the system.
  • How will Bove’s team bounce back after its first loss of the season? It is nice to go up against a team that has Tyreek Hill…on his bye week. Brick also has three players in his current lineup with scary injury designations.

TEAMS ON A BYE: Kanas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles

STANDINGS

  • Eric moves up to second place following his win over Bove and Gabe’s tough losses.
    • Bove remains in first place but now he has just a one game lead.
  • I stay in fourth place despite losing my second straight.
  • Huntley falls from fifth to sixth place and Brick jumped him.
  • No change in standings between the seventh and ninth place teams.
  • Billy moved up from last place to tenth place after his win. Kenney dropped to eleventh and List its In the cellar.
  • Bove is still living in the best of both worlds with the most points scored and the third least points scored against.
  • The top three teams in the standings all have the fewest points against.
  • Billy is fourth in the fewest points against rankings. Didn’t see that one coming.
  • Michaud has made 21 moves this season. The next highest is 13 by myself and Bove.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

“Solid overall team effort this week. RIP Godert, didn’t have enough FAAB to get McBride or Hill, in dire need of a tight end of anyone’s looking to trade.”

Matthew Vaghi – Manager of Monkey Boys

Unable to be reached for comment.

Timmy Drakeley – Manager of KC Rough Housers

“The dumb luck continues, but for how long? Nothing to be proud of considering Mr. List failed to set his lineup”.

Justin Michaud – Manager of Charlestown Chiefs

“Huntley came in expecting a cakewalk and instead got steamrolled by the Love Train. Time to load up the coal and chug along to Kansas City station to take on Timmy D.”

Billy Drakeley – Manager of Love Train

“Felt good to sleigh the giant but we now face off against the #3 team in the league so really need to avoid a hangover here…we’ll miss Kelce on a bye this week, so we’ll promote a scrub from the practice squad to take his spot.”

Eric Sieracki – Manager of The Football Team

“Nice bounce back victory for the squad, Tyreek had his worst week but MVP level dak bailed me out big time.”

Greg Brick – Manager of Derby Dumpster Fires
