PREAMBLE

Week seven was a damn good week of football. Lots of interesting games, and lots of close games for the most part. Hope everyone was able to relax a bit and enjoy some of the pigskin action.

I went to the UConn vs. USF game at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT this weekend. Definitely not NFL quality, but was fun to tailgate and watch some live footballโ€ฆeven it was UConn. I say that to ask the group a question.

What is the proper length of a tailgate?

I gotta say, we parked and had tents set up by noon for a 3:30 kickoff, and damn if it wasnโ€™t a perfect 3 hour tailgate, then pack up and walk to the stadium timeline. Perhaps I would have cut it a bit shorter but there was a group of rambunctious younger UConn fans who were playing a game of blackout and they needed to finish it.

I am also here to say I can no longer handle youths in drinking games. I saw the amount they were drinking and good lord I nearly fell face first in the mud myself.

Anyway, what is the proper length of a tailgate?

In case anyone is curious about the rest of the season bye week situation.

Let’s get going.

WEEK 7 SCOREBOARD

  • Not McGinnityโ€™s best week, but he didnโ€™t need it to beat me. Dk Metcalf doesnโ€™t play but the goose egg doesnโ€™t even stumble team Run CMC. Dallas Goedert had a monster day for Philly, and Amon-Ra St. Brown put up numbers despite the Detroit Lions getting beat down. Also rude of Christian Kirk to take all the points away from Calvin Ridley.
    • I mean what do you want from me? Boston College and the Patriots won as underdogs this week. The Bruins are undefeated after sweeping a West Coast swing and the Celtic start on Wednesday.
  • Ronain improves to 4-3 on the season on the back of Travis Kelce and his outstanding connection with Patrick Mahomes. It was the first time this since Kelce went for over 20 points, but he has scored double-digits all but once this season. Also Derek Carr had 17.44 points, but what a gross 17.44 points from Thursday night.
    • Lobo never sniffed victory on Monday night. Kirk Cousins was standing tall in the pocket and his surgical passing resulted in the 49ers scoring -3.0 defensive points. No Monday night miracle. The NFC West maybe let Lobo down as a whole. Cooper Kupp had his first disappointing game since being back and Brett Maher had only two points for the Rams.
  • Iโ€™ll admit that I did not think Jordan Addison was this good. Had no idea. The Vikings wideout scored 27.8 points on Monday night to really make this a lopsided win for Steve. We canโ€™t bug Steve for getting lucky this week when he beats his projected points by nearly 20 points.
    • Jimmy was within a long striking distance heading into the week’s final game, but Brandon Aiyuk and T.J. Hockenson could not overcome the deficit. Jimmyโ€™s running backs of Latavius Murray and Royce Freeman combined for 10.4 points.
  • Tom didnโ€™t NEED Monday night, but damn was this a close matchup. Really shit luck for Tommy that he had to get defeated by team My Glockz Out despite having a good week. Mahomes did his thing for McLaughlin, and Alvin Kamara is the king of dump off passes. Steve would say he would be a perfect fit on the Patriots of yester-year, and I would have to agree.
    • Tommy has Lamar going during the 1 PM games so he thinks he is golden. Alas, just not enough. Lackluster numbers from Brian Robinson Jr. and Aaron Jones sink T-Siโ€™s hopes of improving to 5-2. What makes the pain even worse is having Dโ€™Onta Foreman on his bench with 31.5 points.
  • Matthew Buzzi takes the battle of the .500 teams over Mike Ritz. Josh Allen, despite losing to the Patriots, had a decent week. He even got double-digits from Najee Harris for just the second time this season. Very impressive victory for Buzzi seeing how Tony Pollard, DeAndre Hopkins and the Cowboys defense were all not in his lineup. Helps that Darren Waller had his best week of the season and Josh Downs scored 21.0 points as a waiver wire pickup.
    • Ritz decided to play Geno Smith over Kirk Cousins. I think this is the first time this season he didnโ€™t play Cousins in the starting slot? Bijan Robinson getting hurt, or being sick, whatever happened, really cramped his style. Even Keenan Allen was held in check with just 7.5 pointsโ€ฆhis lowest outpoint of the season.

WEEK 7 ANALYTICS

PDF LINK

  • This week was the second highest margin of victory of the season at 31.32.
    • The highest margin is 31.73 in Week five.
    • I wonder what the average margin would be if I had a competent team.
    • At this point last season we had three weeks with a 35+ point margin of victory.
  • This week was the second lowest scoring week of the season at 110.73 points.
    • The lowest point total average is week oneโ€™s 106.91.
  • I set a new low for points in a matchup this week with a measly 66.04 points.
    • My bench outscored my team 75.26 to 66.04.
      • This is like Jimmy Butler taking the C team on the Timberwolves and beating the A team in practice.
  • I set a new low this week for wide receiver points with 14.20 points.
  • Ronan set a new best for tight end points in a week with 29.9 points from Travis Kelce.
    • A few more double tight end looks on teams this week, due in large part to the bye week scenario.
  • Buzzi bounced back from a pair of tough weeks (ranked ninth and eighth in points scored the last two weeks) with the second best scoring output this season.
  • Back to back weeks Jimmy has ranked tenth in full team points, running back points and points from highest scoring player.
  • Steve had the third most points this week, making it just twice he has ranked top-four in points scored in a single week.
  • Lobo has ranked top-half in points from running backs in all but one week, but Ritz still has a higher average rank and higher average point total.
    • Ritz has yet to finish below fifth in any given week when it comes to running back points. He has finished top three five of the seven weeks.
  • McGinnity leads the league averaging +9.5 points compared to projected. The next best is T-Si at +6.15.
    • Four of the 10 teams in the league have a positive margin compared to projected.
  • McLaughlin ranked first in four different categories this past week: points scored, points compared to projected, quarterback points and running back points.
  • Turns out having Travis Kelce is good for your average points from tight end standing, just ask Ronan. Has finished first in back-to-back weeks.
  • I have a lot of red.
  • T-Si was outside the top-half in points scored per matchup over the first four weeks, but over the last three he has been in the top four.

WEEK 8 MATCHUPS

  • The gallant Sir Ritzalot will find himself galloping to victory this upcoming week as he has an incredibly favorable matchup against myself. I need to steal some of the aura that Ritz had at the end of last season when his team at least made it respectable. Ritz will probably play Kirk Cousins so he doesnโ€™t have his other quarterback Geno Smith going up against his defense, the Cleveland Browns.
  • Steve will seek to win his seventh straight against Ronan, but it may be tough sledding (I feel like I say that every week) because Ronan is projected to win despite not having a QB in his lineup. Granted, Steve will insert Derrick Henry and Garrett Wilson back in his lineup, but itโ€™ll be a mountain to climb. Of more significance; itโ€™s Jets vs. Giants week in the Kultzow house, so fireworks are going to happen.
  • Ho, ho, ho! We have Jets vs. Giants this week and we have brotherly feuds as well! Tommy and Jimmy. Oh how sweet it would be for Jimmy to knock off Tommy and play a massive spoiler to his potential playoff hopes. Tommy is coming off a week he frankly deserved to win, so whether that is disheartening or encouraging is all in his own head. WIll there be a side wager for the Simons? Or is bragging rights enough? Iโ€™d probably take bragging rights if I am being honest.
  • Great matchup here. Buzzi vs. McLaughlin. These two teams average the most points per matchup; Buzzi averaging 127.85 points and McLaughlin averaging 127.90 points. So letโ€™s bet the over and see who comes out on top! McLaughlin relies a lot on his wide receivers while Buzzi has the top fantasy QB in the land. Will it be running backs that are the deciding factor, or will it be something completely unexpected? Either way, excited for this to play out.
  • McGinnity and Lobo. I am not gonna lie I think this matchup really leans toward McGinnity just on paper. Perhaps if DK Metcalf doesnโ€™t play then Lobo has a shot? Maybe I am being too harsh. Lobo is 4-3 and not out of the playoff picture of all, but I genuinely see a massive chasm between these two teams. If Lobo reads these he is probably shaking fists.

TEAMS ON A BYE: None (For Some Reason)

STANDINGS

  • Steve Kultzow is in first place and now is ranked seventh in the league in scoring.
    • He also has the fewest points against him. It still pays to be lucky.
    • It is impressive to see a six game winning streak on the standings page.
  • Of the top four highest-scoring teams in the league, Ritz is really getting the short end of the stick. He currently sits in eighth place despite having the fourth most points. And by a hefty margin too, nearly 40 more points than T-SI who ranks fifth in points.
    • Ritz also has the eight most points scored against him.
  • While Steve is rattling off wins, Jimmy and I are currently sliding deeper and deeper into despair.
  • To the surprise of no one, Ronan leads the league in moves made with 17.
  • McGinnity has made the fewest moves, and based off the trajectory of his team he really doesnโ€™t need to.
  • And nobody wanted to tell me that I made a mistake last week and posted a scoreboard twice?

PUBLIC RELATIONS

“The score and margin of victory flatters and hides how lucky we got.”

Matthew McGinnity – Manager of Run CMC

“Tough week with injuries and byes. We had to pick up some players off the street. Picked up a Young Derek Carr he showed up for us and might’ve earned himself a spot on the team. On the other hand Slayton was awful and is getting dropped immediately. Most of the credit for the win this week has to go to Travis Kelce he went off for national TE day. Also like others have said, great to beat Lobo who thinks he has the best team.”

Ronan McClorey – Manager of Now You CeeDee, Now You Don’t

“6!”

Steven Kultzow – Manager of The Great Warren

“An absolute demolition derby this week on a heavy BYE for the team. I’m only sorry I didn’t side bet T-Si.”

Tom McLaughlin – Manager of My Glock Out

“Big statement game for our team to stop a bad slide. This is more like what we expect week to week, and the guys stepped up with some big names out.”

Matthew Buzzi – Manager of Allen This Together

“Team underachieved against the best team in the league (yes, I said it). Season is over. I’m sick to my stomach like Bijan Robinson.”

Mike Ritz – Manager of Dirty Mike And The Boys
