PREAMBLE

We are six weeks into the season. Kinda crazy we are already a third of the way through? A bit of a time warp. I think part of the issue for my blur of an NFL season is that I have traveled three of the six weekends. Also the Patriots suck. Really nothing to look forward to except for writing these recaps.

This week was the closest week in terms of average margin of victory. Nearly 19 points is still a lot, but lots of close games, including the absolute barn burner between Steve and McLaughlin.

Did anyone have a better football weekend than Steve? He pulls out the crazy fantasy win due directly to the Philadelphia Eagles kicker missing a game winning kick that allowed his New York Jets to win. And now he is on vacation! What a few days for Mr. Kultzow.

Oh, and he is in first place in our league, and he is currently the most dominant player in his household in his other leagues. Are things going too well?

12 weeks to go in the NFL season. We have seven weeks left in the fantasy football regular season. Lots can change, for good and for bad. This upcoming week can be the turn of the tide with numerous big injuries to monitor and six teams on a buy. It is going to be slim pickens for some rosters.

Let’s get going.

WEEK 6 SCOREBOARD

  • Ronan McClorey improves to 3-3 on the season, doing so impressively without the help of Justin Fields and Deebo Samuel, each of whom got hurt during the course of their respective games. Ronanโ€™s team was brought up from the brink by Raheem Mostert, who scored three touchdowns on his way to 32.7 points.
    • Is this how the Oakland Athletics feel taking the field every day? A team with inferior talent, trying to make moves to improve their roster, but all attempts fail and result in worse performance?  I would like Jahmyr Gibbs to no longer be hurt so I can at least play someone who I traded for
  • In his first week without Justin Jefferson, Lobo mustered together a lineup that was not only strong enough to defeat Jimmy, but strong enough to defeat most in the league. Sam Howell performed admirably in a spot start, and getting Cooper Kupp back just in time to spell Jefferson is a great gift.
    • The Cincinnati Bengals are struggling, as is Jimmy. Joe Burrow has his lowest depth of target of his career, and the lack of explosiveness is hurting his performance. T.J. Hockenson is no longer TE1 in fantasy and has scored single digits four straight weeks. Also Gabe Davis having his worst week of the season is really bad timing.
  • By the skin of his chinny chin chin. Steve Kultzow extends his winning streak to five weeks all due to the fact that Jake Elliot missed the late-game kick for the Philadelphia Eagles. Steve also had Jalen Hurts score 19.9 points to lead his team. Would have been more too if not for the terrible pick in the second half.
    • I know that Jake Elliot is the person he would like to blame most, but Tom really must take a hard look at George Kittle and his 0.6 performance. For those counting at home. That is one catch for one yard. Also Tom, genuine question, how long do you think you can trust him?
  • The Atlanta Falcons receivers came out to play in the matchup between Tommy and Ritz. Tommy had 17 points from Drake London, and Kyle Pitts had 12.3 points in the TE spot for his second straight 12+ point effort. How did they manage to do that because Desmond Ridder is so bad at being quarterback?
    • I look at the quarterbacks and kickers in this matchup. The deciding factors. Lamar Jackson performed well on Thursdayโ€ฆwell kinda. But better than Kirk Cousins for sure. Also Harrison Butkerโ€ฆthe leading scorer for Mr. Tommy Simon! Kicker with the most points!
  • What a week for the father of two. Matthew McGinnity had all but one player score double figures. The only one who didnโ€™t get the memo was DK Metcalf. Credit must be paid to Amon-Ra St. Brown for scoring a team-best 24.4 points. Also there is some sort of connection I can make with Justin Tucker being a kicker being in London playing in a soccer pitch.
    • Buzzi has lost two matches in a row, both with underwhelming performances. He is -60.8 points compared to projected over the course of his two game losing streak. But he might be saved this upcoming week because he has the Bill defense going up against the Patriots so that means he will score 20 points there.

  • The only season-best set this week is McGinnityโ€™s kicker and personal hero Justin Tucker scoring 19.0 points.
  • MGinninity led the way this week having the highest score and having the best output in five of the categories.
  • Jimmy finished last in six different categories this week.
    • He was one of two teams to not score 100 points. I was the other one. I stink as well.
  • Lots of teams went below projected points value; five teams finished with a 20 points deficit compared to the formulas.
  • We have two incredibly hot teams in our league right now.
    • Kultzow has won five games in a row, and he is still skating by and carrying the first place mantle.
    • Tommy started out with two losses but has since won four straight.
  • While there are two teams that are red hot, Jimmy and I are matching them on the depressive front.
    • I have lost five straight and breaking 100 points is a really hard thing to do.
    • Jimmy has lost four straight but has not scored less than only 100 points twice.
  • Buzzi, despite losing two straight games, still has the best average rankings in four categories: Points On Bench, Full Team Points, Points Compared To Projected and Highest Scoring Player/Position
    • He also has the best average score in five categories.
  • Jimmy, despite have a tough team right now, has the best average rank in wide receiver points and defense/special teams points.
    • Perhaps this is evened out by having worst rankings in running backs and wide receiver points.
  • One thing can make Jimmy feel better. I have the worst average ranking in seven different categories.
  • T-Si and Kultzowi, the two hottest teams in the league, do not have any peaks or valleys with his team. They are not the best nor the worst in any category.
  • Buzzi has never ranked less than fifth in terms of full team points.
  • Steve is red hot yet he has only had a top-half performing top player in one match-up this season.
  • Ritz has never had a week in the bottom half of running back points.
  • Ronan has never had a week in the bottom half of tight end scoring.
  • Tommy Simon has passed his projected point total in all but one week this season. That one week was the first week of the season.

WEEK 7 MATCHUPS

  • If this were like a Madden franchise league, this would be the week where McGinnity could rest the majority of his starters and still have a better roster than me. McGinnity is averaging 127.28 points per game. I am averaging 87.6 points per game. I am here merely as the scribe for the league. I am like the side character narrator in a Shakespeare play.
  • Lots of players on a bye for Mr. Ronan McClorey. He has CeeDee Lamb, Nico Collins, C.J. Stroud and Tygae Spears all resting at home. The Stroud thing wouldnโ€™t be a big dealโ€ฆbut with probably no Justin Fields this week, Ronan will have to pivot. Lobo has Breece Hall on a bye, but otherwise his roster is mainly intactโ€ฆif you exclude the Justin Jefferson and James Conner injuries.
  • Steve is going to move to 6-1 this week because Jimmy has more players on a bye or injured than actually active. You think I am kidding, but I am not. Jimmy has three players out with injury, then another six players out on bye. Crazy! Steve can take his slow and steady winning approach and apply it to another week.
  • Mr. McLaughlin and Tommy Simon will surely have some verbal back and forths, and it is Tommy who will be speaking from a position of higher power. A better record, a more full roster and better players should give him the edge. However, Tom can put a major dent in an underdog victory if he has Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave go off on Thursday night.
  • Six teams on a bye. That is the theme of the majority of these matchups. Buzzi is getting the short end of the stick here with four starters taking a rest; Tony Pollard, DeAndre Hopkins, Cowboys D/ST and Dalton Schultz. Ritz got unlucky in week six having a winning total points but being edged out. The eyes of fate are pointing in his favor.

TEAMS ON A BYE: Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals

STANDINGS

  • Steve is solo in first place despite scoring the eighth most points in the league. Orโ€ฆthe third fewest amount of points in the league.
  • McGinnity trails Ritz by just 1.42 points for most points scored in the league thus far. McGinnity is in second place while Ritz sits in fifth place.
    • McGinnity holds this mark despite having the second most points against him in the league. Impressive.
  • Is it a coincidence that the two teams with the longest winning streaks have the fewest points scored against them in the league?
  • As of now the playoffs would be Steve vs. Lobo and McGinnity vs. Tommy.
  • How about thisโ€ฆI am going to end on this one because it is a good one. Only ONE of the current playoff teams is in the top four in Points For.
    • McGinnity: 2nd seed ranks 2nd in points scored.
    • T-Si: 3rd seed ranks 6th in points scored.
    • Lobo: 4th seed ranks 7th in points scored.
    • Steve: 1st seed ranks 8th in points scored.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

“No stat correction.”

Steve Kultzow – Manager of The Great Warren

“First and foremost, I’m proud of my team. To be the top scoring team of the week is not easy. It’s always great to look across the league and see no matter who you matched up with, you would have won.

Second that pride is underscored even more when you look at what the journalists like to call “the analytics”. It’s great to see that you are one of the top producing teams in the league (believe we are off the top by 1 point), but when you look at what the other teams have put up against us (second most points against in the league), where we are right now is impressive. But we have to keep it up! It’s only going to get harder from here!

Finally I’d just like to thank Justin Tucker for coming up big this week. He was under a lot of pressure having been drafted so high, but time and time again he comes through for us.”

Matthew McGinnity – Manager of Run CMC

“I’m proud of the way this team has played the last 4 weeks. We’ve overcome the loss of our 2 best running backs in Saquon and Aaron Jones during this winning streak. We are starting to get healthy and I’m looking forward to seeing this team at full strength. We have a tough matchup this coming week but WE’RE COMING!”

Tommy Simon – Manger of Across The Pond With London

“Good to get the win and be back at .500, despite two big injuries to Fields and Deebo.”
