Just a heads up to anyone reading this, there’s going to be less words in this fantasy baseball recap because I’m doing it speech to text and trying to get Google to understand professional baseball players names without me having to go in and retype them all in is going to be a big pain in the ass. So for my sanity, we are going to try and keep this as simple as possible.

Hopefully by next week I’ll be able to turn my arm and twist my wrist enough where I could be able to type words again. That’s where we’re at.

One thing I’ll admit that I have lacked in these recaps is notifying people of trades when they happened. Over the past two weeks there have been some big names traded. We had Michael Kenney trade away Louis Severino to Jack List for Starling Marte. We had Bove  trade Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to DiMaio for Bo Bichette. (Side note,  Google translate thought should be Bo Bichette should be Bo Bi s***.

So we had that Toronto on Toronto trade and then DiMaio immediately traded Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Brandon Nemo to myself, for Juan Soto.

So lots of trades happening all around.  I also found this thing called the Transaction Center in the league which I had never seen before, just a bit of a snapshot of the moves everyone’s made this year.

Now that we are nine weeks in, we are officially halfway through this fantasy baseball season. The top of the standings have been mainly with the same five teams fluctuating between positions. Vaghi started out red hot but has cooled down as a season that has progressed. Michael has stayed in that playoff picture the entire time. Jack List has been the hottest team over the past four weeks, but Eric and DiMaio are starting to make moves. Well, at least from my POV writing these recaps all the time.

Will somebody come up from the bottom of the standings and start to make moves? Is it Bove, who started off as the worst team in the league but has steadily been on the rise ever since. Is it Huntley, who is sitting just behind the Bove man the lesser men currently?

I think it is safe to say that Michaud, Drakeley, and myself are all on the bottom looking up. We are going to need to have a miracle happen in order to find ourselves near the playoff picture. But we still do have half a season to go, so plenty of things can happen. (I hope so at least.)

I wish ESPN Fantasy Baseball had the playoff projections column of the standings like ESPN Fantasy Football does. Shake my head.

Now, let’s get into week nine.

WEEK NINE: May 29 – June 4

Alex Verdugo led my team with eight hits. Nice of him to get hot again. I also had six hits each from Andrew McCutchen (good week pick-up by me), Spencer Steer (another good pickup), and Paul Goldschmidt. 55 hits ranked middle of the pack, but it was good enough to take down Michaud. He had seven hots from Teoscar Hernandez, and six from Gleyber Torres. Nobody else had more than five.

Sneaky, sneaky. Super sneaky for me to win this category. Six runs on Sunday compared to just two for Michaud helped me to a five category margin. Ozzie Albies, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Verdugo each scored twice on finale day, so thanks to them. 11 runs for Michaud came from Aaron Judge and Ketel Marte.

This category could have been Judge against my entire team, and Judge would win. He had five hits during the week, but four of them would be big dingers. And the tie goes to the solo guy in this scenario. Marte of Arizona had two home runs to help put him over the table.

Michaud’s team had six RBI on Monday and from there he stayed steady. Judge led his team with five runs batted in; Marte, Hernandez and Gunnar Henderson had four RBIs each. Steer had five RBI for me, and Albies had four to his name.

Never really sweat out this category. I got four steals from two week nine pick-ups, and then four other players had one steal each. Marte, Randy Arozarena and Torres had Michaud’s three steals

I would like to thank Michaud and his team’s hitting coach for letting his team take the week off in terms of on base percentage. He ranks second in the league, but this week he had a .296 average. Brutal timing. Meanwhile my team slightly underperformed compared to season mean, but take what we can. McCutchen with a .500 OBP in his time in my roster; and new trade acquisition Vlad Jr. had a .444 mark.

Holy lord, he is back. Well, he has arrived. Triston McKenzie has been out since the start of the year with an injury that occurred during spring training. He came back on Sunday and in five innings tossed 10 Ks. I know I can’t expect this every single outing, but damn that’s outstanding. The leader for me in strikeouts was once again Kevin Gaussman as he notched 11 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Michaud’s leading strikeout picture was Chris Bassitt, who had eight strikeouts. Shoutout to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Late Saturday night I made the call to drop Rowdy Tellez and add Ranger Suarez. I wanted to win the win category bad so I wanted two chances on Sunday. It paid off. Suarez gave his best start of the year and the Phillies won, giving my squad three for the week. I need every category win I can get. Gerrit Cole and Bassitt had the wins for Michaud.

Michaud got one save from Alexis Diaz on Cincinnati against my Boston Red Sox. That proved to be be enough. I got zero saves.

Holy shit. None of my starting pitchers allowed more than three earned runs? Sure, my Brewers tandem of Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta each allowed three earned runs in six innings, but Guassman, Texas’s Jon Gray and McKenzie all allowed zero earned runs. They tossed a combined 18.2 innings. Lance Lynn betrayed Michaud allowing eight earned runs in four innings to the Los Angeles Angels, and then Patrick Sandoval of the Halo’s allowed six earned in 3.1 innings against Houston. And sorry Justin, one more. Shane Bieber with a 15.75 ERA against Baltimore.

My team put forward its lowest WHIP since week six against Jack List. Mr. Jon Gray left zero middle ground and simply stated himself as a top pitcher in the league, at least as of late. Seven innings with two hits and one walk. Very nice. You look at Michaud’s team; sorry man, it’s not great. You had three pitchers with a WHIP over 2.50. I am sorry man, I have been there. The only saving grace is that Lynn, Sandoval and Bieber didn’t throw a ton of innings.

Lets give a shoutout to Spencer Steer, rookie for the Cincinnati Reds. He had six hits, three runs scored, a home run, five RBI, four walks and two stolen bases. Just a great all around week.

Taylor Walls. Last week you were my MVP in a losing effort. This week you are my LVP in a winning week. You went 0/14 this week. Sure, five walks in nice. But no hits…is yikes. Over the past 15 days he is 4 for 32. Come on man.

When someone hits four home runs they are going to win your team MVP. Aaron Judge was a tour de force helping Michaud keep his league lead in home runs. Now Michaud just hopes Judge isn’t too hurt.

I can pull a Frank The Tank here. The Mets stink. well, Francisco Lindor stinks. I can’t give Michaud’s pitchers LVP because there are too many to pick from. I can go with the Mets starting SS who went 2 for 22 and a .167 OBP. Also getting swept by the Blue Jays, who have my recently acquired Vlad Jr., makes it a nice full circle.

MVP TRACKER: Mullins (3), Goldschmidt (2), Soto (1), Street (1), Verdugo (1), Walls (1)
LVP TRACKER: Albies (1), Casas (1), Gausman (1), Peralta (1), Soto (1), Sale (1), St. Louis Cardinals (1), Walls (1), Wisdom (1)

WEEK NINE SCOREBOARD

  • I got my first win of the season since week one! Wahoo! Sorry Michaud, I am just happy.
  • Jack List won all of the hitting categories, but Vaghi conquered a tad on the pitching side. List stole stolen bases from Vaghi on the last day.
  • A draw among the teams at the bottom. While Eric and DiMaio didn’t pitch a lick but hit everything, Drakeley and Huntley followed the other path.
  • Okay Bove…good for you man. Very dominant performance. Does Kenney have a pitching problem? Lost every category on the bump.
  • Wow, Just a battle. Probably deserved a draw. Neither team pitched well but each team bashed their brains out.

WEEK NINE STATISTICS DEEP DIVE

  • Jack List lost the Saves category for the first time ever this week against Vaghi.
  • Highlighted best and worst records in each category on bottom of the sheet.
  • Drakeley set a new low, which can not be topped (or is it lowered?), with zero wins from his pitching staff this week
  • DiMaio set a new worst this week with a 1.667 WHIP.
  • Saves and steals did not lead to many team victories this week.
  • Kenney set a new low for strikeouts in a single week with 34 as a team.
  • Vaghi’s six saves this week ties a week best and I tied a week worst with zero saves.
  • List has been both the best and the worst in pitching wins a league best/worst three times each

WEEK 10 MATCHUPS

  • This is a matchup that both Huntley and I NEED if we want to make a push. Closely ranked contests become must win in our opoitions.
    • According to the season long stats, Stanko should win this match, 8-3. (I do not like this).
    • Stanko won this matchup in week one, 8-3-0.
      • It was incredibly close in hits (one hit difference), runs (2 runs difference) and home runs (one HR difference); I was incredibly fortunate to win all three of the categories.
  • The first of two probable blowouts this week. Vaghi looking to snap his three match losing streak.
    • According to the season long stats, Vaghi should win this contest, 9-2.
    • Vaghi took it to Drakeley in week one, 9-1-1.
      • The closest category was strikeouts where Vaghi won by one. I guess one can say that four runs difference in runs during an ext nended week is close.
  • Bove. You have nothing to lose. Throw it all out there…
    • According to the season long stats, and yes i double-checked this, Jack List should sweep Bove this week. 11-0.
    • Bove and Jack List tied, 5-5-1, in week one.
      • Hits was a category list only won by two. Bove won home runs and runs batted in by two. He also stole stolen bases by one. List secured the saves category by only one, as the two tied the wins category.
  • Eric is riding a three match winning streak; the longest running. Mike wants to get back into the top four with the win.
    • According to the season long stats, Eric will win this matchup, 8-3. Eric is slated to sweep the pitching categories.
    • This one is a little shocking. Kenney kinda took it to Eric in week one, 7-3-1. He also won the saves category by one; Kenney has only won that category twice all season.
  • The top two teams in home runs and runs batted in. There is going to be a lot of offense in this series.
    • According to the season long stats, DiMaio takes this one, 7-3-1. The teams are currently tied in saves.
    • Michaud opened up the season with a 7-4-0 win over DiMaio.
      • Michaud eked out the hits category past DiMaio, and he is the current league leader on hits. Michaud also won the wins category by one while DiMaio took one extra save in the week.

OVERALL STANDINGS

  • I AM NOT IN LAST!! WHOOP WHOOP!
    • Sorry Billy.
  • List, Eric and DiMaio stay in the top three spots with no movement. DiMaio picked up a game on Eric.
  • Vaghi hops into the fourth place slot with a loss…because Kenney’s loss was worst.
  • Bove moves up two spots and is now only half a category behind the team he just beat.
  • Michaud dropped from sixth to eighth following his lost to me.

CATEGORY LEADERS (Including Ties)
  • DiMaio: Hits, Runs, Runs Batted In, Earned Run Average (4)
  • Vaghi: Strikeouts, Walk/Hits Per Inning (2)
  • Eric: Wins (1)
  • Kenney: Stolen Bases (1)
  • Huntley: Saves (1)
  • List: On Base Percentage (1)
  • Michaud: Home Runs (1)
