Just a heads up to anyone reading this, there’s going to be less words in this fantasy baseball recap because I’m doing it speech to text and trying to get Google to understand professional baseball players names without me having to go in and retype them all in is going to be a big pain in the ass. So for my sanity, we are going to try and keep this as simple as possible.
Hopefully by next week I’ll be able to turn my arm and twist my wrist enough where I could be able to type words again. That’s where we’re at.
One thing I’ll admit that I have lacked in these recaps is notifying people of trades when they happened. Over the past two weeks there have been some big names traded. We had Michael Kenney trade away Louis Severino to Jack List for Starling Marte. We had Bove trade Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to DiMaio for Bo Bichette. (Side note, Google translate thought should be Bo Bichette should be Bo Bi s***.
So we had that Toronto on Toronto trade and then DiMaio immediately traded Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Brandon Nemo to myself, for Juan Soto.
So lots of trades happening all around. I also found this thing called the Transaction Center in the league which I had never seen before, just a bit of a snapshot of the moves everyone’s made this year.

Now that we are nine weeks in, we are officially halfway through this fantasy baseball season. The top of the standings have been mainly with the same five teams fluctuating between positions. Vaghi started out red hot but has cooled down as a season that has progressed. Michael has stayed in that playoff picture the entire time. Jack List has been the hottest team over the past four weeks, but Eric and DiMaio are starting to make moves. Well, at least from my POV writing these recaps all the time.
Will somebody come up from the bottom of the standings and start to make moves? Is it Bove, who started off as the worst team in the league but has steadily been on the rise ever since. Is it Huntley, who is sitting just behind the Bove man the lesser men currently?
I think it is safe to say that Michaud, Drakeley, and myself are all on the bottom looking up. We are going to need to have a miracle happen in order to find ourselves near the playoff picture. But we still do have half a season to go, so plenty of things can happen. (I hope so at least.)
I wish ESPN Fantasy Baseball had the playoff projections column of the standings like ESPN Fantasy Football does. Shake my head.
Now, let’s get into week nine.

Alex Verdugo led my team with eight hits. Nice of him to get hot again. I also had six hits each from Andrew McCutchen (good week pick-up by me), Spencer Steer (another good pickup), and Paul Goldschmidt. 55 hits ranked middle of the pack, but it was good enough to take down Michaud. He had seven hots from Teoscar Hernandez, and six from Gleyber Torres. Nobody else had more than five.
Sneaky, sneaky. Super sneaky for me to win this category. Six runs on Sunday compared to just two for Michaud helped me to a five category margin. Ozzie Albies, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Verdugo each scored twice on finale day, so thanks to them. 11 runs for Michaud came from Aaron Judge and Ketel Marte.
This category could have been Judge against my entire team, and Judge would win. He had five hits during the week, but four of them would be big dingers. And the tie goes to the solo guy in this scenario. Marte of Arizona had two home runs to help put him over the table.
Michaud’s team had six RBI on Monday and from there he stayed steady. Judge led his team with five runs batted in; Marte, Hernandez and Gunnar Henderson had four RBIs each. Steer had five RBI for me, and Albies had four to his name.
Never really sweat out this category. I got four steals from two week nine pick-ups, and then four other players had one steal each. Marte, Randy Arozarena and Torres had Michaud’s three steals
I would like to thank Michaud and his team’s hitting coach for letting his team take the week off in terms of on base percentage. He ranks second in the league, but this week he had a .296 average. Brutal timing. Meanwhile my team slightly underperformed compared to season mean, but take what we can. McCutchen with a .500 OBP in his time in my roster; and new trade acquisition Vlad Jr. had a .444 mark.
Holy lord, he is back. Well, he has arrived. Triston McKenzie has been out since the start of the year with an injury that occurred during spring training. He came back on Sunday and in five innings tossed 10 Ks. I know I can’t expect this every single outing, but damn that’s outstanding. The leader for me in strikeouts was once again Kevin Gaussman as he notched 11 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Michaud’s leading strikeout picture was Chris Bassitt, who had eight strikeouts. Shoutout to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Late Saturday night I made the call to drop Rowdy Tellez and add Ranger Suarez. I wanted to win the win category bad so I wanted two chances on Sunday. It paid off. Suarez gave his best start of the year and the Phillies won, giving my squad three for the week. I need every category win I can get. Gerrit Cole and Bassitt had the wins for Michaud.
Michaud got one save from Alexis Diaz on Cincinnati against my Boston Red Sox. That proved to be be enough. I got zero saves.
Holy shit. None of my starting pitchers allowed more than three earned runs? Sure, my Brewers tandem of Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta each allowed three earned runs in six innings, but Guassman, Texas’s Jon Gray and McKenzie all allowed zero earned runs. They tossed a combined 18.2 innings. Lance Lynn betrayed Michaud allowing eight earned runs in four innings to the Los Angeles Angels, and then Patrick Sandoval of the Halo’s allowed six earned in 3.1 innings against Houston. And sorry Justin, one more. Shane Bieber with a 15.75 ERA against Baltimore.
My team put forward its lowest WHIP since week six against Jack List. Mr. Jon Gray left zero middle ground and simply stated himself as a top pitcher in the league, at least as of late. Seven innings with two hits and one walk. Very nice. You look at Michaud’s team; sorry man, it’s not great. You had three pitchers with a WHIP over 2.50. I am sorry man, I have been there. The only saving grace is that Lynn, Sandoval and Bieber didn’t throw a ton of innings.

Lets give a shoutout to Spencer Steer, rookie for the Cincinnati Reds. He had six hits, three runs scored, a home run, five RBI, four walks and two stolen bases. Just a great all around week.
Taylor Walls. Last week you were my MVP in a losing effort. This week you are my LVP in a winning week. You went 0/14 this week. Sure, five walks in nice. But no hits…is yikes. Over the past 15 days he is 4 for 32. Come on man.
When someone hits four home runs they are going to win your team MVP. Aaron Judge was a tour de force helping Michaud keep his league lead in home runs. Now Michaud just hopes Judge isn’t too hurt.
I can pull a Frank The Tank here. The Mets stink. well, Francisco Lindor stinks. I can’t give Michaud’s pitchers LVP because there are too many to pick from. I can go with the Mets starting SS who went 2 for 22 and a .167 OBP. Also getting swept by the Blue Jays, who have my recently acquired Vlad Jr., makes it a nice full circle.

MVP TRACKER: Mullins (3), Goldschmidt (2), Soto (1), Street (1), Verdugo (1), Walls (1)
LVP TRACKER: Albies (1), Casas (1), Gausman (1), Peralta (1), Soto (1), Sale (1), St. Louis Cardinals (1), Walls (1), Wisdom (1)

There is a lot happening in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. One could argue that there is too much going on.
Much maligned as the worst of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible II doesn’t do itself any favors upon rewatch.
