Movies…with a little bit of obscure culture and sports mixed in
When I posted that I watched Almost Famous (2000), I had more than a few coworkers and friends reach out to me saying that it was one of, if not their favorite movies. Someone even called it the perfect movie.
Shoutout to my parents for recommending Nyad (2023). They don’t remember doing it, but I promise you, they did.
Truly, The Holdovers is at its simplest, very pleasurable. It hits all the right notes while adding some unreal unique ticks.
As one grows older, one grows fonder of stories that don’t treat their audience like adolescents. As one grows older, one appreciates movies that are shadowed with complex dialogue, ambiguous characters and unpredictable plots. Michael Clayton is an anxiety filled reminder that giving the green light to top-notch filmmakers when they have a high concept story with top-quality actors attached is never a bad idea.

George Lucas’s breakout role in Hollywood was the furthest thing from science fiction. American Graffiti is a movie about nothing, yet about something existentially important. What are we doing with our lives? Who are we now, and who will we be later, and is there any correlation at all?
